Opportunity
The Diocese of Portland in Maine is seeking a new school superintendent. Great opportunity, especially for someone who hasn’t had the chance yet to serve as a Catholic superintendent. The new incoming bishop is Fr. James T. Ruggieri, presently the pastor of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish and Saint Patrick Parish in Providence, Rhode Island. I’ve heard great things about him from people whose judgment I respect. I have spent a lot of time in Maine since childhood and have spent 5 years as a Catholic superintendent. Happy to speak privately about the opportunity and the state of Maine. Great place to raise a family and much more affordable than Boston. Just send a private message on here if you want to chat. It is more fruitful to train a few students to cherish the Scriptures... than it is to entertain 100s with our programs. Spiritually, Biblical exposition is vital to a close walk with Jesus. The attached article from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary explains this well. What about from a cognitive standpoint? Do students have the capacity to deeply mine and comprehend the Scriptures? Absolutely. I contend that students do have the capacity to comprehend expositional preaching of the Word... and there are educational best-practices you can implement to support their understanding. Consider these tips to support your students: ▶ Remember less is more: The adolescent brain, similar to adults, can only process small bits of information at once. Focus on smaller bits of Scripture and dig deeply. ▶ Talk it out: When a student comes in contact with new concepts, the new information is first stored in their short-term memory. When they are allowed to talk it out, content is more likely to transition into their long-term memory. ▶ Equip them to dig: Teach students how to study Scripture for themselves. This should be very practical, hands-on, and ongoing. When you gather, consider first introducing the passage and context. Then, using the tools you've equipped students with, allow them to dig into the passage by themselves or with a small group before coming together for the preaching of the Word. At the end of the day, we can rest in the power of God's Word which transforms both hearts and minds. If you teach teenagers in ministry, what educational techniques do you find effective for engaging your students during Biblical exposition? #fortheChurch #learningdesign
💬 "Student ministries that fail to disciple students in Scripture shouldn't be surprised when the world has discipled them away from the faith in young adult years." –Zach Robinson 👉 Read the full article: https://vist.ly/3auau #StudentMinistry #Disciple #SBTS #TheologyMatters

Catholic schools are defined by high expectations of students both academically, spiritually, and personally. There is a strong priority placed on Catholic values and virtues. This is one of the main reasons why these types of schools have grown recently. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/djjQaxnR
