Halfway through my summer internship at Walmart, I wanted to share some observations about corporate life here: 💰 People Currency: At the Home Office, Walmart truly values its people. 💎 Encouraging Excellence: Walmart pushes you to do your best every day, but they also understand the risks and provide support when things don't go as planned. 1️⃣ Customer First: Every business or project-related meeting I’ve attended always includes someone asking, "What does this do for the customer?" or mentioning how it improves the customer's life. The customer is always the priority. 😁 Amazing People: I've met over 700 interns and countless full-time associates, and I genuinely like every single person I’ve interacted with. ❓ Culture of Inquiry: As an intern, I’ve been encouraged to ask questions, and I’ve seen full-timers and even officer-level associates do the same. It’s a great learning environment. ⭐ Exceptional Leadership: This one means the most to me. My VP, Dave DeSerio, has been an incredible leader for the Fuel & Convenience team. He leads by example, follows through on his commitments, and genuinely cares about the entire team. He knows each of us personally and is hands-on in his approach. To an outsider, it might seem unbelievable, but Dave is our guy. Isn’t it crazy that the world doesn’t always expect leaders to be this engaged and knowledgeable about their direct reports? I feel incredibly lucky to have him as a mentor this summer. Let's talk about IMPACT! We're into Week 2 of Summer Internships at Walmart! Leading up to summer internships, I've had awesome discussions with interns on the question, "How do I crush my internship?" Let's discuss "Crushing it!" One crucial piece of advice is to treat your internship as if it's a full-time job. Show up on time, meet your deadlines, and be professional. Understand the company and team's missions and how your role and project (s) contributes to it. Show initiative, go beyond your assigned tasks, and never be afraid to ask questions. And yes, you can always talk to your recruiter. I promise all interns that this level of commitment and dedication will not go unnoticed and can open doors for future opportunities. Lastly, "Embrace the journey!" That is a line I use on my email signatures and holds true to everyone's career journey. Ask way too many questions and stay curious about all aspects of your role, or others you may think you’d be interested in.  ⛳ Fun Fact: I liked this photo because it is one of the only pictures I’ve taken of myself golfing and it happens to be at my favorite course. Day 3 | Happy Wednesday! With my internship at Walmart this summer still being less than a month old, I wanted to share some differences between that experience and college. Here are a few of my thoughts below: ~ Structure ~ College: - I set my hours and choose my classes. - My schedule is flexible and spontaneous, changing daily based on what I want to do. - I can easily move between class, piano practice, the gym, and photoshoots. Walmart: - Feels more like high school with an 8/9 - 5 culture. Seeing the same people/desk Monday to Friday. - Walmart offers benefits like unlimited PTO and schedule flexibility depending on the team and time of year. - There are always new tasks, but all are work-related; college offers more variety in novelty. - Hours, focus, and priorities are set by leadership. ~ People ~ College: - People from all over the U.S. and the world, mostly in the 17-23 age range. - Varied majors, from Marketing to Pre-med to Education. - Similar generational culture, with impressive students excelling in academics, sports, and music. Walmart: - Still diverse, but more people from Arkansas + Surrounding Area - Wide age range, from 20-year-old interns to leadership in their 60s+. - Friendly culture with a focus on productivity; work life first, then social life. - Impressive talent—some people have specialized their entire career, while others have broad experiences. ~ Responsibility ~ College: - Your graduation is on you. - Group responsibilities are limited to team projects, campus jobs, and clubs. - Most of what you do affects only yourself, not a company or others financially. Walmart: - You own a Profit and Loss statement(Full time) - Being a merchant or "CEO" of a category there's a lot of responsibility on you and your team. - Decisions often have direct financial implications, whether good or bad. 🎉 Wrapping up an incredible summer with Walmart Realty! 🎉 As a Political Science and Criminal Justice major, you'd usually find me debating policy or analyzing legal frameworks—not diving into the world of fuel and customer insights. 🛢️ But hey, sometimes you’ve got to play the ball where it lies, right? 🏌️♂️ This summer, I took a swing at Walmart Fuel and Convenience Customer Insights. My goal? To bridge the gap between valuable customer feedback and the hourly associates out in the field who make the magic happen. Spoiler alert: there were no mulligans on this one. 😅 The result? A brand-new dashboard designed to get those insights straight into the hands of the folks who need them most. On top of that, I proposed some solutions to improve survey quality and quantity by enhancing everything from survey access to completion. 🛠️📊 Let’s just say, the process required a lot more precision than sinking a birdie putt. Now, for a guy who usually deals with voting polls instead of fuel pumps, this role was way out of left field. But that’s what made it so rewarding! I learned how to use Excel in ways that would make any data geek proud, became cross-functional within the ginormous company that is Walmart, and met with the real backbone of the company—the store managers, team leads, and hourly associates working the counters. It’s like getting to know the caddies, the unsung heroes of the game. ⛳ One of the highlights? Implementing and launching a live dashboard that I created alongside Skyler Samson (who's an absolute genius, by the way give him a connect). Midway through my internship, we released it to the public, and the feedback has been nothing short of a hole-in-one! 💻🙌 This project has been an incredible learning experience—equal parts challenging and rewarding. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a company that touches so many lives across the country. 🛒 As I head back to campus, I’m excited to take these skills and insights with me (and maybe finally get around to filling out some surveys myself! 😅). As the summer portion of my internship comes to an end, I'm excited to share some of the work I've accomplished as an Amazon Marketplace Intern at Justrite Safety Group. At the beginning of the summer I had the opportunity to travel to Broomfield CO, for intern week. I had the chance to meet the other interns in person, I gained a deeper understanding of Justrite Safety Group and its mission, and got valuable advice from experienced professionals as I start out my career in marketing. Throughout the summer, I analyzed our market position across key product selections, and conducted in-depth keyword research to identify the most effective keywords for boosting sales and increasing ad conversion rates. I then applied this research to craft detailed product page copy and create compelling A+ Content. I ended the summer portion of my internship with a presentation to the other interns, managers, and members of the exec board, highlighting the processes and results of my summer projects. I'm thrilled about the opportunity I have to continue working with and learning from Christy Trahan and the rest of the Amazon team during my fall semester. #AmazonMarketplace #MarketAnalysis #KeyWordResearch #AmazonAds
