He was hailed as a hero for calming passengers and the crew with music during the sinking. But honestly, through the lens of leadership, I see it differently! Although his commitment to his role as a musician and calm acceptance might seem positive, as leaders, it should give us pause. Consider the number of lifeboat seats that went unused – 472 to be exact. What if he had rallied to fill those seats? Could he have used his maritime and leadership experience to save more lives, even though it was outside his role as a bandleader?
