About a year ago I switched away from a standard shoulder milling tool that I had used extensively with great success. I wanted to move away from it because the insert was beefy with lots of negative cutting geometry, designed for heavier machines than we have. Jason Bainbridge From Tungaloy Corporation had me test the TungforceRec 12mm DOC insert and I have been very happy with this tool's positive, free cutting geometry in lots of materials. Here we are machining 4140HT plate, cutting parameters are 0.25" DOC, 0.75 Radial engagement, 0.0055" per flute(5 flute) and 500sfm. The DMG 104v linear is pushing this tool really well creating thick, clean chips, each indistinguishable from the next. Spindle load is sitting around 43%, lots more room to either feed harder or take bigger passes.
