In 2023, I was privileged to have combined my academic internship with agricultural training scholarships from Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Soilless Farm Lab
As a computer science IT student in the agricultural world, my responsibilities at Soilless Farm Lab required me to collaborate with diverse groups of 1000 individual youths from 36 states and various agricultural backgrounds and genders. The goal was to establish a robust #food_security system for both the present and the future. As evidenced in the accompanying video, I held the belief that everyone, including family, friends, and even those less informed, can and should learn to cultivate their food even on a small scale. This approach helps alleviate pressure on local farmers and can be achieved through intentional and systematic processes that transform agricultural work into an enjoyable and exciting endeavor.
This philosophy is epitomized as part of the FarmCI project while at #Farmlab, which focuses on building a system that empowers communities and families to become #efficient_food producers while ensuring a consistent yield for those already engaged in farming.
In one of my recent articles, I talked about how individual countries have their own Super Power that can always be capitalized on when needed, this is due to many years of intentional development on it. For Nigeria, agriculture forms our backbone, and with the ever-increasing population, it's important to know the world will at one point rely on Africa to ensure adequate food supplies, therefore we must intentionally contribute towards helping the people at this forefront get the best from their endeavors, so they could be motivated to plant more, through the combination of different technologies, policies, and practices deployed at every phase to enable productive output and better livelihood for these farmers.
For me, building this project is my contribution, I may not be on the farm doing the main job, but I hold it my responsibility to use the available resources at my disposal to assist and ensure I make the most impact.
We are currently accepting Expressions of Interest from candidates currently working in agriculture and the bioeconomy in the Bundaberg Region who want to do research and gain a Masters of Philosophy degree.
This scholarship scheme was established as part of the growing partnership with Bundaberg Regional Council and QUT, which are set to sign a renewed MOU.
Associate Professor Mark Harrison, who partners with industries in the Bundaberg and Wide Bay region, said that CAB is looking forward to collaborating with regional partners to deliver cutting-edge research that underpins economic and environmentally sustainable development for Bundaberg.

"I love working in and with nature. My training is diverse and I am closely involved in the development of new vegetable varieties between the greenhouse, trial field and laboratory. It's really exciting to see how good varieties are made even better." - Anna-Lena Hargens, training to become an agricultural technical assistant at Rijk ZwaanBundesverband Deutscher Pflanzenzüchter e.V.#WomenInScience#GrowingTheFuture
Exciting Update from REVIVER PROJECT
Yesterday, our partners gathered for our regular progress meeting, and we are thrilled to share our advancements.
Right now, we're working on:
🌿 Curriculum Development: Crafting theoretical and practical sections tailored for European and Sub-Saharan Africa climates and soils, alongside clear learning goals, outcomes, teaching methods, evaluation techniques, and module durations. This curriculum will help Vocational trainers educate a new generation of young farmers.
🌿 Partnership Details:
Leading institutions are coordinating program and module development for Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Collaborative efforts are focused on the theoretical foundation of regenerative agriculture.
🌿 Regional Contributions:
European organizations are focusing on climate and soil specificities.
Sub-Saharan organizations are focusing on climate and soil specificities.
Each organization contributes an expert to collaborate on preliminary programs and modules.
🌿 Outcome: All efforts will be compiled into a comprehensive document detailing learning goals, outcomes, teaching methods, evaluation methods, and module durations.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to revolutionise agricultural education!

Macquarie University Engineering congratulates Associate Professor Noushin Nasiri on her success in receiving the ARC Early Career Industry Fellowship in the recent round. She will embark on an impactful project titled ‘From Lab to Field: Smart Sensing Technologies for Future Farming’. This project aims to address the long-standing industry challenge of establishing a non-invasive early-stage pregnancy detection system on farms. Utilizing novel sensing technologies, the university–industry partners aim to significantly improve livestock and dairy productivity, enhance animal welfare, and reduce costs and rates of operator injury. The outcomes will include enhancing the selectivity of gas-sensing technologies and acquiring advanced knowledge on mass-producing gas sensors, with the potential for commercialization post-project completion. The economic, commercial, and social benefits will extend beyond the industry partner, benefiting a wide range of industries from food and agriculture to environmental monitoring sectors.
Thanks to the industry partner Agscent PTY LTD for partnering in this important work.
