We often perceive fear as a barrier, a force that holds us back from achieving our dreams. But fear, when harnessed correctly, can be a powerful motivator. Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to conquer Mount Everest, once said, “I have been seriously afraid at times but have used my fear as a stimulating factor rather than allowing it to paralyse me. My abilities have not been outstanding, but I have had sufficient strength and determination to meet my challenges and have usually managed to succeed with them.” Hillary’s words remind us that fear is a natural part of any journey worth taking. It is not the absence of fear that defines courage, but the decision to move forward despite it. He didn't claim to possess extraordinary abilities; instead, he credited his success to strength and determination. We may not all face the towering peaks of Everest, but we each have our own mountains to climb. Whether it's a personal goal, a professional challenge, or a new venture, fear will always be part of the equation. The key is to use that fear as a driving force, a stimulant that propels us forward rather than a weight that holds us down. In those moments when fear grips us, we must remember that it is not a sign of weakness, but a signal that we are on the verge of something significant. By facing our fears head-on, we grow stronger and more resilient. Our abilities, like Hillary’s, may not always feel outstanding, but it is our determination that carries us through. So, as we stand here today, let us take a lesson from Sir Edmund Hillary. Let us not allow fear to paralyze us. Instead, let it ignite our passion, fuel our determination, and guide us towards success. Let us face our challenges with the strength and resolve to overcome them, knowing that our journey, much like Hillary’s, is not about being the best, but about giving our best.
