Howdy! Every year I help raise funds for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with a few of my good friends by participating in an event called Extra Life. The event itself isn't all that important; it's a 24-hour game marathon where we try to raise funds for the hospital. Since starting we've raised over $24,000 for our local children's hospitals. We'll be doing our marathon on 12/16 and 12/17 this year. If you're willing and able, donations go to a program called Child Life at the hospital. Here's a summary of what they do: Money raised for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia goes to a program called Child Life, which provides care and support designed to meet the unique needs of children and families as they cope with illness, injury, treatment, hospitalization and the overall healthcare experience. Play and family are important parts of a child's life. When a child becomes ill or injured, these normal activities and relationships are disrupted, often resulting in increased fear and stress. Child Life staff provides many opportunities to engage children in normal day-to-day activities, support their development and enhance their ability to cope with the hospital experience. This covers therapy and services that are not normally covered by insurance companies and helps the children maintain as normal a life as possible while in the hospital. https://lnkd.in/gBTHK2qy

One of the many downsides of AI is the insane power requirements for all of the computation. What do we get for that? Companies trying to use it to destroy jobs, the Internet getting flooded with inaccurate generated content, mass plagiarism, and tools with embarrassingly high error rates. As part of working through an Unreal Engine class I decided to try Github CoPilot. There are some small benefits to using it; It saves time writing well-known algorithms without taking a trip to the browser (ex: binary search). However, following along with a course instructor has really highlighted how revolting the plagiarism of a lot of these AI tools are. Within a few lines of code CoPilot has seemed to dial in on a clone of the project I'm working through and started wholesale suggesting the teacher's work as it's own. Attached is a sample: First image is what was suggested after I typed "C" and hit tab a few times. Second image is the instructor's code on screen.
