Advises Engineering Leadership (CTO | VP | Head of Engineering) on how to deliver tech strategy, accelerate delivery and demonstrate bottom line impact. The Executive Mindset CTO Newsletter
Your job as CTO (in essence) is to ensure that the technology is enabling the company to succeed. Your job is to make sure that: • technology reasons hindering the business from making money are removed/mitigated • technology is helping the business make more money. That's it, in a nutshell. Too many CTOs in my experience 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 what the board cares about: 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁! What do you think? Is my experience skewed? Is the hyper focus on technology making CTOs forget the bigger picture? Or is it because it takes effort to see the link between technology and the bottom line? #ReEngineeringLeadership #cto #ceo #board

Because if you choose right it will: - Help you execute faster - Help you attract the right talent - Find many examples you can steal - Find people fast when you are stuck - Find many answers when you are stuck If you are a CTO, think before you choose

While the core elements of companies, namely, their business, products, and use of tech, remain the same, the responsibilities of C-level roles are constantly shifting in response to changing demands. When looking at this chart’s loose grouping of different jobs’ priorities, it’s important to remember that roles can expand beyond these definitions. For example, CTOs are placed here as having an entirely external focus, but companies can benefit from asking their CTOs to integrate tech into internal operations as well. I believe that the CTO role is a strategic one for the organisation that focuses on emerging technologies and product strategy. “the CTO—is responsible for knowing which new, potentially disruptive technologies are surfacing, to grasp both the dangers and opportunities they pose for the organisation, and to see and act across the company to help formulate and execute a holistic response”. #technology #business #CTO
