Rising protectionism - How will it affect the global automotive industry? Delighted to have been part of an exciting panel at the FT Live #futureofthecar2024 facilitated by Imogen Bhogal with Ian Howells and Abby Seadler Wulf. In the #lettertoEurope, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, gives a series of recommendations and projects that should be undertaken to secure a sustainable, inclusive and competitive automotive industry. As long as there is a level playing field, we are not afraid of competition. But work has to be done: an #industrial deal that enables #competitiveness, a stronger dialogue among stakeholders and ecosystems, a more rational regulatory framework, an effective industrial diplomacy, and enabling the creation of european champions in key technologies. Clearly, the conditions are still not there to envisage an obstacle free path to 2035. In terms of enabling conditions, we should be installing 7 times more chargers than we are. There is no sign at sight that energy prices will reach a stable and competitive level in the short-medium term. #EU countries are phasing out purchase incentives for EVs… when reality in countries like Germany show that the contrary is needed, regulatory tsunami is still in front of us, with 8 to 10 regulatory impacts per year up to 2030.
