"I believe that most of us have false beliefs about our own nature, and our identity over time, and that, when we see the truth, we ought to change some of our beliefs about what we have reason to do."
― Derek Parfit, Reasons and Persons
Well, this has been a gripping year. This time last year, I gave my year's review through five books. While 2022 offered some space for personal growth, this year I could barely manage to finish the few books that were at the top of my reading list for a while. One of these was Derek Parfit’s 'Reasons and Persons'. That was not an easy read. It is not the book you read cover to cover. It is a book in which you find a sentence that you get stuck with and think about it for days. It is a book on ethics, morality, and personal identity, and it is a must-read for anyone interested in the theory of mind, in the issues of moral philosophy.
2023 started with the opening of the EMOTHEO Heritage Hotel in Imotski, which was not without its challenges. Opening a hotel in Dalmatia in winter, and especially in the hinterland where there is no other hotel and nothing else happening, is never going to be the easiest of tasks.
At the same time, I took on a role with Lošinj Hotels & Villas as Chief Transformation Officer. One might ask, what exactly is a Chief Transformation Officer? Well, it is a slice of strategy, with a side of change, a sprinkle of creativity, and gallons of innovation and growth. I took a deep dive, not looking back, and the year turned into one long day. Much could be said about the highlights of the year, but bringing Preferred Hotels & Resorts to Croatia as Hotel Bellevue entered this affiliation stands among the most consequential, in my opinion. We have secured the hosting of the largest-ever travel show to take place in Croatia, the loop luxury fair, which will bring over 300 hoteliers and 300 agents to the island of Lošinj in April 2024, but more about that next year.
In the process, I have witnessed continued success for Villa Nai 3.3 as it was voted the best unique hotel in the world by Hôtel & Lodge Magazine in Paris, and took part in the award ceremony at the majestic Lutetia Hotel.
I have sailed the Aegean, experienced the devastating Marrakech earthquake from Jemaa el Fnaa square, driven vintage cars in Puglia, and visited Costa Navarino, Oslo, Belgrade, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Qatar, Miami, and more.
I have failed a lot as well. I have monumentally failed to spend more time with my kids, to share more laughs with my friends, and to finish about 15 books that I am simultaneously reading. I have failed to properly charge everything I have done to the full extent. I've gotten caught up in the whirlwind of my own thoughts more often than ideal. But none of it could have been any different. Even if everything were to play out again, I am sure it would all have unfolded exactly the same. All that is left to be done is to open your eyes and enjoy the ride.
Be well and be happy everyone!

5moWhat a sparkling review for Kensington. I enjoyed reading about Samantha's private tour of Clara Stones red coral jewelry and the glowing photos of Villa Antoan kissing the Adriatic Sea.
