Extreme summer heat in a lot of European tourism hot spots are sending tourists to colder places like Norway for their vacations as explained by The Wall Street Journal. In Norway, it’s very common to go for a summer vacation to Greece, Italy, France and/or Spain often referred to as just “Syden” or “South” in order to make sure you at least get one or two weeks of sun. Now, booking levels for trips to Norway for the period June to August is up 37% compared to last year making Norway a top 10 tourist destination in Europe as tourists want to escape the heat, avoid large crowds and enjoy natural scenery. What WSJ fails to mention is however that the Norwegian currency is very weak against particularly USD, but also Euro. Hence, Norway which used to be one of the most expensive places in the world has suddenly become a lot more affordable, although a Big Mac is still 25% more expensive than in the US so I rather recommend eating sushi. #finance #travel #tourism #summer #flight https://lnkd.in/d9uHU5M6

Over-tourism is an increasingly urgent concern for many European destinations. Barcelona has proposed a ban on vacation rentals by 2028. Venice is limiting walking tour groups to 25 or less and limiting areas where they can stand and implementing a surcharge on daytrippers. Greece is limiting Acropolis visitors, limiting cruises and has closed an island to visitors. Athens was recently voted the worst destination for over-tourism. Looking for ways to avoid the crowds, here are some recommendations: - Avoid traveling to Europe in July and August. September/October and April/May months are ideal - Consider exploring a less popular destination - Use a travel agent to make sure you are getting the best deal without you having to do all the work!
