As a donor of 35 years and board member, Bill shares: "I have literally seen the impact that KYA has made for children, legislatively and systemically. I attended the first Children's Advocacy Day at the Capitol back in 2004 when there were only a handful of attendees and have seen it grow to a full week with a rotunda overflowing with advocates. KYA's consistent track record of wins and positive approach to tackling hard challenges emboldened me to make the decision to support KYA even after I'm gone. It brings me peace to know that, with my support, KYA will continue to make a difference for my grandson's generation and beyond." In what ways can philanthropy do things differently to combat white supremacy? As someone working with Grantmakers to lead grantmaking processes and evaluation, I really appreciated last week’s “Philanthropy’s Role in Combatting Extremism and White Supremacy” webinar, hosted by Philanthropy MA. Panelists Michael Curry, NAACP board member and Peggy Shukur, Anti Defamation league, shared ideas (this is not quoted but paraphrased): · Funding over longer periods · Bring organizations doing the work together to network and build partnerships (and power) and then invest in them doing work together. · Train our ears for code and false language to increase personal awareness of false and harmful narratives. · Focus on youth- those who will come next- reach who you can before they become convinced of racial toxicity and untruths. How else do you think philanthropy can play a role in combatting extremism and white supremacy? #grantmaking #philanthropy #nonprofits #equity

https://lnkd.in/g6EUNg2Y How to Improve our Society! Dos and Don’ts! *** -We should work to promote education in whatever way possible! -Stand up for liberty and freedom whenever and wherever we see oppression and injustice! -Defend equality, and always take a firm stand. Do not remain silent! -Take responsibility of our own actions! -Stay informed on current events. Be impartial, objectively analyze the situation, and try to discern patterns and hidden relationships/ messages/ meanings! -Vote. No if’s and but’s. We must go out and cast our vote, even if we know that oppressors will steal our vote! -Hold leaders accountable. Our leaders become our servants after assuming office. So, remember, we are their employer! -Support charitable events in whatever capacity we can. If we are unable to donate, then we should promote the cause, and support those who organize such events and organizations! -Support voluntary activities whenever we can. If we can’t participate, then we should show our appreciation for volunteers! -Be kind, civil and considerate. There is no special occasion to exhibit these qualities! We should make it part of our personality! -We need to participate! -Come up with good arguments, and respect good counterarguments. Don’t feel offended, but if someone is discourteous, speak up, don’t hold back! -And if someone tells you about your rude behavior, don’t feel bad! -Be generous! -Be vocal and always defend the foundational principles of justice and merit. This is non-negotiable, and is the least we can do to justify our existence! Cheers!

🚨 This isn't just a cultural, social, and evolutionary setback; it's a direct challenge to personal freedoms and women's rights. Iowa faces a critical moment. Our state's laws are on the brink of setting a precedent that punishes women for their choices, regardless of their circumstances. At Iowans for Health Liberty, we believe that no one should be penalized for decisions about their own body. It's time to rally, to advocate, and to ensure our voices are heard loud and clear. Stand with us. Stand for choice. Stand for the rights of all women in Iowa to make decisions about their bodies without fear of punishment. Here's your chance to win $500. The year 2024 will mark 60 years since the birth of Community Action! To commemorate this important milestone, the National Community Action Partnership (NCAP) is sponsoring a poster contest. Open to Community Action staff, board, volunteers, and their family members, the contest challenges competitors to visually demonstrate the important role of Community Action in fighting the conditions of poverty—whether the focus is on our historic accomplishments or on our future challenges and opportunities. Entrants may use the promise of community action as inspiration, recognizing the past but looking to the future and inspiring hope. Grand prize winners will be selected in each of two categories of focus: Historic: This category will honor the past and recognize 60 years of fulfilling the Promise of Community Action. Future: This category will look ahead to leverage our past so that we remain strong to meet the needs of the future. The winner in each category will be awarded $500 and design credit. Grand prize–winning entrants’ artwork will be incorporated into posters made available across all 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) and used by NCAP at its trainings and annual conference. Winning posters may also be printed and sold by NCAP, featured on its website, or appear at events and in promotional activities. Poster entries must be received by January 24, 2024. Winners will be announced on February 2, 2024. Preparing for an exciting workshop had me thinking about my experience with 3 organizations which are powered by a strong sense of purpose, volunteerism, and advocacy. And at the heart of it, one thing stands out. How TRUST-worthy are we for members/customers/sponsors/donors to continue supporting us? And not just once, but to do it repeatedly. It's the questions that we ask that give birth to such exciting possibilities.

Come Join Suzanne Hitchman and Me on MLK Day MLK Day white Bodied Anti-racist Reflection and Intention Setting When: Monday January 15th 10am-12pm Where: Zoom: https://lnkd.in/e5URAiYs What: A facilitated space to connect with stiving white bodied anti-racists to reflect and set intentions for embodied anti-racism in the year ahead! This session will included opportunities for grounding, community building, journal reflection and differentiated small group discussion depending on your goals ie, individual healing, strengthening your relationships across race, organizing at work, resource mobilization/reparations, self-education, etc. Together we will co-compile a Community Garden of resources for further study, action and resource mobilization in support of BIPOC lead social justice movement work. Why: We believe MLK Day is a day ON for white folx. While we support opportunities to take action via community service and direct action, we also know space is needed to unpack our own growth towards greater anti-racism and focus in on our own areas of development in community with other white people. We hope that together we can share the resources and tools that supported our healing, unlearning and action throughout the year and motivate one another to stay active, learning, healing and pushing for racial justice in the year ahead. Donation-proceeds will go to BIPOC led social justice organizations determined by the group What BIPOC led groups have financially supported this past year? We will compile a list and select an org from this to send donations to. There will be an opportunity to add more during and after the session.

The more I think about what has happened to me, the angrier I get. Who gets to decide my fate? Who gets to decide how the law is applied? So I have this to say to ‘The Panel’ that turned me down this week and all the other non-transparent and under-represented panels that decide our futures. Dear Panel, You recently had a decision to make. Yes or no to my much needed funding. You said no. Who are you panel? A diverse group of people including representatives from the disabled community, young people and people with lived experience? My feeling is, perhaps not. What information were you given? A full a thorough explanation of my needs, wishes and goals? What time did you have to consider my case? Enough to read all of the relevant information submitted? Erm, no. What understanding do you have of local policies, the law and how it works in practise? Can you honestly say your decisions are based on lawful arguments? Or, are you just worried about ‘setting a precedent’ or ‘opening floodgates’. If you give it to me, they’ll all want it, right? Think about that one. What chance did I get to represent myself? None. What reasons did you give for turning me down? None. Regards, Sam Can you see my point? My GoFundMe campaign is my only way to level this playing field until I can #GetTheCogsTurning and work on fixing this broken system. Please, please let’s get this further and wider. I promise to give it all back in spades in my fight to make things better for all disabled young people. https://gofund.me/96ffc80f Hey there! I'm reaching out to share an important cause—#GetSamToCollege. Sam needs our help to fund the necessary support to attend college despite facing severe physical and communication difficulties. Please click the link below to donate or share the link if you can. Thank you so much! #GetSamToCollege #Equity #DisabilityRights #EqualityOfOpportunity #CerebralPalsy

Today is RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS DAY 🎉 I would like to encourage everyone who sees this post to do a random act of kindness this weekend. Here is a list of some acts of kindness • Paying for a stranger’s food bill. • Giving a homeless person food or money. • Checking in on your elderly relatives or neighbours. • Donating to charities like ours https://lnkd.in/ePCsqsn8 • Complimenting people. • Offering your services to someone who may not be able to afford them otherwise but would benefit from them. • Sharing a word of encouragement with someone. • Giving a bunch of flowers 💐 to a stranger & tell them it’s random act of kindness day (pass it on 😊)… you just never know what someone is going through and that random act of kindness, could be the very thing that uplifts them and changed the course of their life! So your challenge; should you wish to accept it is 1- Share this post and 2- Do at least 1 random act of kindness this weekend 🥰💐
