Yesterday was absolutely incredible! We spent the day at Ian and Di Haggerty stunning property, Prospect Pastoral. It was such a treat to have the talented teams from the restaurants Nieuw Ruin, Edward & Idas, and Miller & Baker join us. Together, we toured the farm and delved into the magic of Natural Intelligence Farming™️. There’s something truly powerful about bringing chefs and bakers directly to the source, allowing them to witness firsthand where their ingredients originate. It’s all about shortening the distance from paddock to plate and fostering a deeper connection to the food we create and enjoy. #naturalintelligencefarming #naturalintelligencefarmingproduce #paddocktoplate #farmfresh #hospitality #walocal #walocalproduce #sustainableproduce #regenerativeproduce #regenproduce

It’s no surprise that meat prices are up at the grocery store. Progress on Better Chicken Commitment ‘falling behind’, warns Compassion in World Farming More UK supermarkets will need to sign up to the #BetterChickenCommitment if the British poultry sector is to “raise the baseline standard of chicken”, Compassion in World Farming has urged. While the UK, with 18 companies, was second only to France in Europe in terms of total sign-ups to the BCC, the fact only two of the businesses were supermarkets (M&S and Waitrose) was holding back the rollout of the scheme, warned Compassion’s second annual Chicken Track report, published today. By comparison, all of France’s major retailers had signed up to the scheme, CIWF said. To comply with the BCC, businesses need to adhere to a suite of welfare commitments, ranging from the implementation of a maximum chicken stocking density of 30kg/m² or less, and the adoption of slower growing breeds such as the Hubbard and improvements around light. Air quality improvements and more humane slaughtering techniques – such as controlled atmospheric stunning using inert gas are also mandated. Many UK retailers, such as Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Morrisons had made recent commitments to reduce the stocking density of their chicken to 30kg/m², CIWF noted, while some were offering a ‘tier’ of BCC-compliant chicken – such as Tesco’s ‘Room to Roam’ or Morrisons’ ‘Space to Roam’. https://lnkd.in/dcKETwNQ #poultry #poultryindustry

Grown together for the last 17 years
Cheers to 70 years at Place UK 🎉 We're thrilled to be celebrating our 70th anniversary at Place UK. From our roots as traditional farmers in Norfolk in 1954, we've come a long way. What started with John Place's passion for growing soft fruit has evolved into something special - we're now one of Britain's top fruit growers and suppliers of IQF produce. Over the years, we've adapted and grown, thanks to forward-thinking decisions like adding IQF freezing in the '80s and embracing new farming techniques. Tim Place helped modernise our operations, and today, led by Pieter van Egmond and supported by the fourth-generation Ben Place, we're still pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the curve. From supplying raspberries to packing smoothie mixes for your local store, our focus on quality and innovation remains as strong as ever. As we look back on these incredible 70 years, we're excited for what’s to come. Here’s to the next chapter in the Place UK story. 🌟 #PlaceUK #70Years #FarmingHeritage #Innovation #BritishProduce

Recently, our Plastic Free Places team member Jo collaborated with Beef Week on a trial focusing on reusable cups. The trial highlighted the utilisation of donated cups, mugs, and keep cups from the community, to achieve complete reusability. A dedicated vendor was engaged to exclusively use the donated cups for coffee and drinks. At the event, a camp kitchen was arranged, allowing attendees to prepare their own coffee. We provided a collection of reusable cups on the counter as an alternative to single-use ones. Additionally, wash-up tubs were made available, and we seized the opportunity to educate attendees on the significance of embracing reusables and the solutions available. The concept garnered positive feedback from attendees. Children actively participate in various activities during Beef Week, including cattle care, showing, and judging. They thoroughly enjoyed the trial with reusable cups, mirroring the enthusiasm of other attendees. The introduction of reusables was well-received overall. Events like Beef Week serve as pivotal case studies for fellow event organisers, showcasing the seamless transition from single-use cups to reusables. Beef Week underscores the community's eagerness to adopt more sustainable practices. Celebrating the Beauty and Diversity of Chicken Eggs & Beef Operations in the United States! As we savor our morning omelets or indulge in a hearty steak dinner, let's take a moment to appreciate the remarkable beauty and diversity that lies within our food sources. Just like the stunning array of colors, sizes, and patterns found in chicken eggs, our nation's beef operations also boast incredible diversity. From the sprawling ranches of the West to the family-owned farms in the heartland, and the rolling hills in Western Pennsylvania where I farm at @MapleValleyCattleCompany each operation contributes to the rich tapestry of American agriculture. Every egg tells a unique story, reflecting the varied diets and environments of the hens that laid them. Similarly, beef operations across the United States showcase a multitude of practices and traditions, from grass-fed to grain-finished, highlighting the adaptability and innovation of our farmers and ranchers and their own geography. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, both chicken eggs and beef operations play vital roles in our food system, providing nourishment and sustenance to millions while supporting rural economies and livelihoods. Today, let's celebrate the beauty and diversity of our food sources and recognize the hard work and dedication of the farmers and ranchers who make it all possible. #Agriculture #FoodDiversity #MapleValleyCattleCompany #Egg #Beef #Farms #Diversity

Earlier this month the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and Hopsteiner UK took brewers on a hop walk at Redsells farm in Faversham, Kent. The day brings brewers, growers and merchants together with experts from across the industry to look at the crop and hear about future plans. This year’s theme was sustainability. The growers are constantly working and learning from each other as to how to make their businesses more sustainable for the long term. We have lost almost 50% of our hop growing acreage in 5 years and to remain viable, hop growers are demonstrating wonderful flair and resilience in this field. Our Hopsteiner hops are helping. Designed to be drought and disease resistant, they require less intervention, have a lower carbon footprint, and therefore the yield is higher per hectare. Working alongside our growers and brewers is what Hopsteiner prides itself on, being proactive to change, managing risks and being world class at innovation. #farming #hops #brewers #beer #sustainability #worldclass #harvest2024 #farminglife #hopsteiner Hopsteiner Deutschland Hopsteiner
