Kerala’s growing elderly population is set to become one of the state's most significant social challenges. Despite Kerala's pride in its literacy and high living standards, many elderly individuals lack proper medical care and adequate food. Stories of children neglecting their parents after inheriting their assets, leaving them in old age homes, are becoming increasingly common. Governments have implemented various measures to address elderly care, but every panchayat should establish senior citizen parks, free legal aid centers, health clinics, and day care centers to address this issue. The expansion of day care centers can help reduce the abandonment of seniors in old age homes. Private initiatives and increased public awareness are also essential, as governments gradually withdraw from service sectors. Let us remember our cultural heritage, where protecting the elderly and parents was once a matter of pride. . . #Kerala #HealthcareForElders #CommunitySupport #SeniorCitizens #ElderlyRights

Punjab - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes The 22 districts of Punjab have about 14-20 Senior Citizens Care Homes which comes to 0.6 Elderly Care Home per district. In my personal research, Punjab has a collective Assisted Living bed capacity of 700 for an estimated Elderly population size of 4 million (40 lakhs), which comes to 1 bed for 11600 older persons. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 3300 beds for Punjab which is far far less than the present 700 beds. Sharing a list of Care Homes / Assisted Living / High Dependency Care Homes in Punjab (14 Care Homes) for the benefit of the larger cause which was compiled last year. Since the database is my personal research hence it could and will have research errors, hence it is requested of everyone that incase of additions / deletion / corrections kindly share your feedback so that as concerned citizens we can develop a verified and open source database. Karnataka - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes To be honest I am still not clear as to whose responsibility it is to collect and publish National and State level database of Senior Citizens Care Homes in India? Though the entire excercise of data collection can be completed within 3 days that is if all district authorities just assign a resource, but then, I guess there is a huge difference between wishful thinking and actually doing something about it. The 30 districts of Karnataka have about 150-175 Senior Citizens Care Homes which comes to 5 Elderly Care Home per district, but then 100-110 are in the two districts of Bengaluru itself (Bengaluru Urban & Rural). In my personal research, Karnataka has a collective Assisted Living bed capacity of 7800 for an estimated Elderly population size of 8 million (80 lakhs), which comes to 1 bed for 3300 older persons. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 4500 beds for Karnataka. Sharing a list of Care Homes / Assisted Living / High Dependency Care Homes in Karnataka (149 Care Homes) for the benefit of the larger cause which was compiled last year. “We have spent up to 12,000 rupees on medicines and tests at a private clinic. We have to borrow more and more," said Suma Devi, a brick kiln worker who suffers from tuberculosis but is not aware that she is entitled to public health care services including free treatment for TB. In our second ground report in the three-part series supported by Purpose on brick kiln workers of Uttar Pradesh, #AnumehaYadav travels to Naujheel village in Mathura to find the seasonal migrants who work in kilns, round-the-clock, have no awareness of or access to rural healthcare services, with the harshest impact on women and children worst. While there are many directives to decarbonise the brick kiln sector, there are no similar directions to safeguard workers’ rights, particularly healthcare and protection from rising heat, labour rights campaigners said. Read the story here: https://lnkd.in/dGShC3nu This series is supported by the Buniyaad movement (https://lnkd.in/dbtBxMMu) of Purpose Gurpriya Singh Divya Gajria #migration #risingheat #womenshealth #womensafety #childcare #health #ruralhealthcare #justtransition #climatechange

Gujarat - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes Gujarat may be the land of opportunities, but then, when it comes to Senior Living projects in the State, it has a long way to catch up. The 33 districts of Gujarat has about 53-60 Senior Citizens Care Homes which comes to 1.6 Elderly Care Home per district. In my personal research Gujarat has a collective Assisted Living bed capacity of 2800 for an estimated Elderly population size of 7.8 million (78 lakhs), which comes to 1 bed for 4100 older persons. If one has to go by the National recommendations of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment then each district should have one Senior Citizens Care Home of 150 beds, which comes to 4950 beds for Gujarat. The larger point of debate is, is compilation of open source database the responsibility of a single individual or should the concerned stakeholders come forward to share relevant information, experience and learnings for the benefit of the sector. Sharing a list of Care Homes / Assisted Living / High Dependency Care Homes in Gujarat (53 Care Homes) for the benefit of the larger cause which was compiled last year. Since the database could and will have research errors, hence it is requested of everyone that incase of additions / deletion / corrections kindly share your feedback so that as concerned citizens we can develop a verified and open source database. CALL FOR MORE BABIES Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have called upon the citizens in their states to have more babies. Such a call can be understood in a country like Japan, which has an acute shortage of working age population. India is the most populous country in the world today and is already having good younger population. Country's citizens are already suffering due to high inflation, high unemployment, inadequate health and education facilities etc. Urban youth are postponing marriage and parenthood as raising children is not easy in today's situation. Maybe the CMs have given the call keeping in mind the number of Lok Sabha constituents in their states after the delimitation exercise and the share of revenue received from central government. These are genuine concerns. However, methodology for determining the number of Lok Sabha constituencies and share in central revenues should be suitably changed so that no injustice is done to states implementing family planning. Having more babies, I think, is not the solution due to the problems mentioned above.

Kerala - List of Senior Citizens Care Homes The future of our parents and our old age is in our hands, however the larger point of debate is, what are we doing about it and are we really prepared to cater to the expected exponential growth of seniors population in the next 25 years? Kerala has the highest numbers of Senior Citizens Care Homes in the country, but then the question is why is it that Kerala has 25% of the Care Homes of India? Could it because Kerala is "God's own country" and the senior citizens prefer to stay closer to God? These statistics should be analysed by researchers, planners and policy makers because the winds may be stronger than what is seen by normal eyes . Sharing a list of Care Homes / Assisted Living / High Dependency Care Homes in Kerala (511 Care Homes) which was compiled last year. Since the database could and will have research errors, hence it is requested of everyone that incase of additions / deletion / corrections kindly share your feedback so that as concerned citizens we can develop a verified and open source database.
