❝When a woman becomes a widow during a conflict, her limited resources and lack of institutional support make her and her dependents far more susceptible to various types of harm.❞ Though widows can be more vulnerable to threats such as sexual violence, forced remarriage, exploitation, human trafficking, forced displacement and extremist recruitment, they are continuously rendered invisible in the Women, Peace, Security narrative and often excluded from conflict resolution plans. This needs to change. We honour Vinesh, not just for her incredible achievements at the Paris Olympics but for her unwavering courage in standing up against sexual harassment. Sexual harassment remains a pervasive issue, casting long shadows over the lives of many. Understanding the gravity of sexual harassment and its long-term effects is crucial for fostering empathy and support within the sporting community. Sexual harassment can have devastating impacts on an individual's mental, emotional, and physical well-being, often leading to diminished performance and even withdrawal from the sport. Addressing the impact and gravity of sexual harassment helps to destigmatise the issue, encouraging survivors to come forward and seek help without fear of judgment or retaliation. Vinesh Phogat’s fight is a powerful reminder that standing up for oneself can inspire collective action. When individuals and bystanders (colleagues) support the fight against harassment, it becomes a formidable force that demands action and brings about change. Collective action amplifies the voices of survivors and sends a strong message that harassment will not be tolerated. When colleagues and the wider community stand together, they create a culture of accountability that compels institutions and individuals to take responsibility for their actions. Despite the profound challenges and emotional toll that such experiences bring, and facing immense personal and professional challenges, Vinesh has proven that she is a true winner. #sexualharassment #accountability #parisolympics #champion

Millions of women and children around the world are vulnerable to a range of everyday forms of violence. In some countries like Bolivia where 0.04% of sexual violence cases reach a verdict, justice can seem impossible. But we believe that justice is possible. We’ve seen the impact of the work IJM and its partners accomplished just in the last year when Dressember partner IJM Bolivia achieved an outstanding 13 convictions in 3 months. With the help of so many, we know that this is only the beginning, and more changes are possible until we can stop violence against women for good.
