𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐏𝐌 Working in a Start-Up I got the incredible opportunity to lead the production of a product as the sole Product Manager. The last 6 months journey have been filled with anxiety, pressure and of course curiosity to learn more and overcome challenges. But the exhilaration after the launch of your first product is unmatched. Here are a few things I learned from my experience: 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝: When working in a startup, going from ideation to production comes with a lot of challenges and most often then not, deadlines are going to be pushed. So, always be prepared with a backup plan and sometime backup for your backup :) 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦: Building the right team is paramount. While startup budgets may be tight, investing in the right people is non-negotiable. The initial team you assemble will lay the foundation for your company's success. 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: During the development phase, our product underwent numerous changes, often testing our patience and resolve. Therefore, finding passionate team members is going to be one of the best decision you ever make. Yes, it's the managers that motivates the team, but sometimes its your team’s dedication that keeps you going, especially during challenging times. So no, the roles are not defined. No matter what position you are on, there is always scope for learning from others. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐞: Continuous discussions and collaboration are key. When you only sit in front of your laptop, staring at your screen, both your motivation and creativity comes to an end. Always find time to connect with your team. It could be about any mundane topic, but never stop having conversations with them. And Lastly, 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬: Never forget your wins and never let wins of your team get ignored. Dan is all this, and so much more. He’s one of only 2 people I’ve met in the past 10 years and thought: wow, I’d love to work for him. He is an incredibly thoughtful person, with highly contagious energy. His standards are high, he is all at once fiercely competitive and fun to be around (and an amazing singer-guitarist that you can see perform live in SF). I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built over the past 10 years. I’m also proud to pass the torch when Front’s momentum is in full swing: we’re hitting above our goals, we’re hiring across all teams, and we’re shipping the most innovative stuff in years. Better yet: there’s more to come. And, of course, that’s a very emotional moment for me. I’ve poured ten years of my life into this company, trying to get the perfect blend of ambition and care, and I like to think I’ve been mostly successful at that. I love this company more than words can tell. This is why I’m not going far either: I’ll take on the role of Executive Chair, and continue working for our beloved customers.
