I went on a resilience journey this week- and you all know my passion for resilience- both in my consulting work and now with Whisper & Thread. There was a moment when it seemed like our mission to create a revolution in positive self-talk through intimate apparel might falter. We knew that launching our garments with phrases we chose wouldn't cut it. We had to come up with a solution that enabled us to customise our embroidery with phrases chosen by our customers. It may sound simple, but this is a challenge because: 1. Minimum order requirements mean we can't get one-off embroidered garments from our supplier 2. Embroidery on the INSIDE of the garment means we can't get the embroidery done post-manufacture 3. We don't want a sew in tag with a phrase on it- the embroidery MUST be on the garment itself! 4. Suppliers won't send us partially finished garments to finish off post-embroidery However, it was this very challenge that taught us the essence of resilience. I had my supplier sending me videos of the construction of the garment. I was sending her ideas and photos to test what would enable us to embroider our garments ourselves while still hiding the embroidery backing on the outside of the garment. We innovated our approach by creating a special way to construct our underwear and are now waiting for those samples to arrive to test our assumptions. Team work! We could have said, "There's no way to do this - nobody else has done it before for a reason- because it's too hard". But instead, we said, "There's ALWAYS a way!" This experience underscored the power of self-belief, mirroring the very messages we want to include in our apparel. It's a reminder that the obstacles we face often pave the way for our greatest achievements."
