I just returned from the SHRM Inclusion Conference, and let me tell you – it was nothing short of a revelation. The room was buzzing with leaders and professionals from every walk of life, each bringing a unique perspective to the table – talk about a rich tapestry of experiences! The connections made? Stellar. The conversations? They were the kind that crackles with potential and promise, the sort that leaves you itching to roll up your sleeves and dive into action. But let's get real for a moment. The messages around Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Engagement (ID&E) were the show's true stars. This wasn’t your run-of-the-mill, check-the-box type of talk. No, we dug deep into the gritty truths and soaring possibilities of truly embracing inclusion. To all the thought leaders and change-makers I met: Watch out, world – together, we’re about to redefine the gold standard for workplace culture. We here at Raines are getting ready to celebrate April's Diversity Awareness Month! While current headlines might focus on cuts in DEI programs and DEI-specific roles, we are not discouraged-- and it seems we aren't the only ones. In fact, a recent Pew study found that a majority of employed adults in the U.S. think increased DEI at work is a good thing. Research continues to demonstrate the positive impact of DEI in organizational output, with well-managed, highly diverse teams showing greater innovation and higher levels of effectiveness. And the benefits extend beyond financial gains: diversity in the workforce improves employee engagement, fosters a sense of belonging, and drives innovation.   This month and every month, we at Raines celebrate diversity and remain committed to supporting increased representation and inclusion efforts -- both internally and for our clients. #diversity #diversityawareness #dei

EDI is about more than just awareness days: Inclusive Employers outlined to delegates why having a strategic approach to EDI is vital for its success. Carol Buchanan, head of inclusion qualifications at the company, said: “The very first thing organisations do when they’re thinking about doing inclusion work is… awareness raising.” She said they start with awareness days celebrating diversity without having a “why” or an approach that is “strategic”. “If it is the only thing that you’re doing, what happens really quickly is that the people who are interested and want to get involved, they’re the people who come to everything you do,” Buchanan continued. “Soon they start getting annoyed because you’re not actually changing anything in the organisation… and those who don’t understand it get annoyed as well because they wonder why you’re having this conversation. So it’s two steps back before you start moving forward.” She said a strategic approach would have a “vision”, which will tell you where you are trying to get to and why you are going there, a “strategy”, which will outline a roadmap of how you move forward in the next few years, and a “plan”, which will add detail to how the strategy will be delivered. #hr #cipd #edi #diversity

I am a firm believer that part of our role as stewards of Company culture, it is important for us Human Resources Professionals to lead & champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace to foster a thriving, innovative, and competitive organization. Embracing DEI leads to a multitude of benefits. Diverse teams bring varied perspectives, fostering creativity and enhancing problem-solving capabilities, crucial in today's dynamic business environment. Equity ensures fair treatment, access, and opportunity for all employees, thereby cultivating a culture of trust and respect. Inclusion, meanwhile, guarantees that every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute fully. Moreover, a strong DEI focus attracts and retains top talent, as increasingly, employees seek workplaces that value diversity and practice inclusivity. It also boosts employee engagement and morale, reducing turnover and associated costs. From a business perspective, companies with robust DEI policies often enjoy better financial performance and reputational advantages. Therefore, HR's proactive role in championing DEI is not only a moral imperative but a strategic business necessity that drives organizational success and sustainability. The celebration of Pride Month should not only focus on our LGBTQ+ employees but all employees who are part of the minority and those who are "differently able" or "more challenged" members of our organization. Lately, I’ve heard many leaders brushing off inclusion initiatives as part of the “Woke agenda”, but let's shatter those stereotypes and explore the essence of DEI – it's all about fostering respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for everyone. Think about it: DEI sparks culture shifts, boosts employee retention, and attracts a diverse talent pool and customer base. By reframing our understanding of DEI, we can unlock its true potential to drive organizational success and societal progress. Today, I challenge you to break free from the confines of "wokeness" and instead focus on the tangible impact that genuine DEI efforts can bring.
