What do people most look for in a Doctor? Competence and knowledge are crucial. Everybody wants their loved ones to be in skilled hands. But, one of my earliest experiences as a student taught me that patients seek more than just expertise. What they look for is- COMPASSION. Some of the best doctors you will ever meet are courteous and respectful. They greet their patients with genuine concern and warmth. Patients want human connection. They need empathy. They sense their doctors’ energy and positivity. As aspiring healthcare professionals, we must prioritize professionalism and attentiveness in our interactions with patients. Every detail matters – from our demeanor to our level of engagement. Patients notice and appreciate these efforts, which sets exceptional healthcare providers apart. Let’s continue to elevate the standard of care and make a meaningful impact in the lives of our patients. #PatientCare #HealthcareProfessionalism #Ophthalmology

I’m excited to share my latest article in Psychology Today from my “Bringing Care Back to Healthcare” column. In this piece, I explore an issue many healthcare professionals face: the pressure to always have the right answers. Cognitive dissonance—when doctors experience discomfort due to medical uncertainty—can strain patient relationships and affect care quality. In today’s healthcare environment, honesty about limitations, systemic challenges like insurance restrictions, and embracing shared decision-making are more important than ever. By acknowledging the unknowns and being transparent about barriers, we can foster stronger, more trusting relationships with our patients. I also highlight the need for systemic change in healthcare, advocating for patient-centered models that prioritize collaboration over perfectionism. In a time when patients seek clarity and empowerment, transparency becomes a vital part of the healing process. Join the conversation and read the full article here: When Doctors Don’t Have All the Answers #HealthcareLeadership #PatientCenteredCare #MedicalTransparency #HolisticHealth #HealthcareInnovation #SharedDecisionMaking #MedicalEthics #BringingCareBackToHealthcare #CognitiveDissonanceInMedicine
