Excited for Louis Kosiba of Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) to lead our Fireside Chat with James Clayborne, Jr., Majority Owner, Clayborne & Wagner and former Senate Majority Leader, Illinois State Senate. Given that they are instrumental in the progress made with Minority, Women & Disabled Veteran-owned managers, brokers and enterprises benefitting from transparency and progress they promoted, this discussion will shed valuable light on how investors profit from broader opportunity sets and improved processes they initiated in Illinois. We hope to gauge the state of affairs today and learn how we may continue the trajectory for our audience of investors, deal sources, and private companies. Louis Kosiba is an Annuitant Trustee and former Executive Director of IMRF. He was responsible for 200+ co-workers and all operations. Important work included: relationship management with Illinois General Assembly; press/media; local units of government. Within IMRF, important work included: Board of Trustees; strategic planning; investments; funding; benefit processing; customer service; staff development; cyber security; auditing; information technology; legal issues. Upon exiting in 2017, Mr. Kosiba said, "Many things are going right here. IMRF will be in good hands when I leave." He has shifted focus to volunteering, tutoring, and mentoring students in high school and college. "I think helping people become mainstreamed into society would be a good thing for me to do," he said.

McCarthy Capital Fund VIII has secured $56m in commitments from the Nebraska Investment Council on its path to a $700m target. The Nebraska Investment Council (NIC) promised $50m to the fund from its primary pension pot and a further $6m was committed from the Omaha Schools Employees Retirement System, according to an investment document by the pension fund. It was a great two days at the Greenwich Economic Forum where private credit was front and center. Vivek Mathew, President of Antares Capital Advisers, and Mark Burgess of Australian Retirement Trust took on private credit but in a different way. Instead of debating the merits of the asset class (there are many!), they discussed the fundamentals of partnerships – what they’re built on, trends in partnership models, and how to assess the intangibles. Good news for London’s capital markets today as we tested the mood of attendees at Peel Hunt’s inaugural #FTSE250Conference: 77% of directors sense a meaningful improvement in the sentiment and outlook of investors.   The verdict is another welcome boost for London in a good week for capital markets marked by the successful float of Raspberry Pi – our second IPO in the space of a month.   Our CEO, Steven Fine, was joined by Lord Philip Hammond (Former Chancellor and Chair of the FinTech Growth Fund), William Wright (Founder and Managing Director of New Financial LLP), and Nicholas Lyons (ex-Lord Mayor of London and Chair of Phoenix Group) in our first panel to discuss revitalising the UK’s capital markets. While Peel Hunt is cautiously optimistic about the London market after seeing signs of recovery, the panel agreed that there is much that can still be done to make the UK an even more attractive destination for business and investors.   Pensions reforms were the highest on the agenda, with the panel agreeing that increased contribution to UK PLC would not only boost outcomes for pension savers, but open up a much needed pool of capital for some of Britain’s best businesses.    Financial education in the UK was also pegged as a priority - especially as the UK is currently unique in providing little, or no financial education for school children.   We look forward to day two of the conference.
