As more companies seek ways to meet sustainability goals while still engaging in essential business travel, high-quality travel offsets might be one initiative to consider. Jodi Manning writes for Fast Company: -Corporate travel represents 30% of all travel spend, yet only 17% of 328 global companies have credible plans to reduce those emissions. -Nearly 80% of organizations believe that in-person meetings, events, and conferences are crucial to their ongoing success. -High-quality carbon credits and their associated travel offset programs can not only help you meet your business goals, but also do a world of good for the planet. Sometimes the first step is the hardest. That's why I like how Amadeus' Jackson Pek puts it in his guest blog post: "The first step is for everyone in the travel industry to acknowledge and take action for their own impact – which is why at Amadeus, we are continuing work as an organization to address our own environmental and social impact." I think we can all agree that the global travel industry needs to become more sustainable. This post looks at research on attitudes towards ESG goals and what can be done to make them a reality. Well worth a read. Laura Cobbold Clare de Bono Steven Love Juan Giron #travolution #amadeus #sustainable #travel #esg

Why have only 30% of the UK’s biggest travel companies published comprehensive sustainability plans? Our team in partnership with the ITT - The Institute of Travel & Tourism’s Sustainability Committee, examined the top 50 UK ATOL holders, analysing their websites for robust environmental strategies, whilst also evaluating their efforts in promoting sustainable travel choices. We found that more than 40% failed to mention sustainability in any capacity, while just 30% had shared thorough sustainability strategies and only 14% had set science-based targets aligned with the SBTi’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard. In the article shared in the comments below, we explore the factors that we believe are holding businesses back and dismantle the barriers that are preventing progress. #SustainableTourism #SustainableStrategies #SustainableBusiness

It seems like the challenges facing sustainability in travel remain. There is concern about the impact that our travels have but not enough to make a top priority. My take, travel suppliers can still make an effort to communicate their sustainability efforts, make it easy for the potential customer to understand what effort they are taking to decrease the impact on the environment and then, make sure that their value proposition is still competitive.
