When we think of vaccines, our minds often turn to childhood immunizations. However, vaccines are equally vital for adults. Protection from some childhood vaccines can wear off over time, and as you age, your ability to fight infections may weaken, resulting in new health risks. The World Health Organization reports that vaccinations prevent between 3.5 million and 5 million deaths each year from diseases like diphtheria, influenza (flu), measles and tetanus. By staying updated with recommended vaccines, adults can significantly lower their chances of contracting preventable diseases and stay healthier for longer. Get the How, Why, and Best Practices in this article The Importance of Routine Vaccinations.

❓What vaccinations does my pet need? Each country has its own set of vaccination requirements for pets entering the country. In general, we strongly recommend that you keep your pet up to date with the following. Dog Vaccinations: ✅ Rabies ✅ DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) ✅ Bordetella (Kennel Cough) ✅ Leptospirosis ✅ CIV (Canine Influenza Virus) Cat Vaccinations: ✅ FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) ✅ FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) The vet must follow the vaccine manufacturer's guidelines regarding revaccination. In general, a booster vaccine is required 2-4 weeks after the first to be considered fully vaccinated. Following the first booster, the vaccinations are then valid for 1-3 years (depending on the vaccine). Recommended Vaccinations for Older Adults: As you age, staying up to date with vaccinations becomes crucial for maintaining good health. Here are some essential vaccines for older adults: 1-COVID-19 Vaccine: COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that poses a higher risk for older adults. Vaccination reduces the chances of getting severely ill or requiring hospitalization due to COVID-19. Booster shots are also recommended. 2-Flu Vaccine (Influenza): Influenza can lead to serious complications, especially in older adults. The flu vaccine is updated annually to remain effective. Getting vaccinated reduces the risk of severe illness and hospitalization. 3-Shingles Vaccine (Zoster): Shingles is a painful condition caused by the same virus as chickenpox. The vaccine is safe and effective for healthy adults aged 50 and older. 4-Pneumonia Vaccine: Pneumonia can be severe, especially in older adults. The pneumococcal vaccine helps protect against pneumonia and related infections. 5-Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) Vaccine: This vaccine provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough. A booster shot is recommended every 10 years. Remember, vaccines strengthen your immune system and help prevent serious illnesses.
