We are delighted to catch-up with Sherman Brown, Village Manager at Burwood Terrace, and another of our amazing award winners at Keyton. Sherman and team took out the National Blueforce People’s Choice Award for Best Village & Community 2023! Sherman himself was awarded the VIC/TAS Village Manager of the Year 2023 and was also a finalist for National Award for Village Manager of the Year. He talks below about what the award means to him, the village and the team. ◾️What does it mean to win the award? It means that all things are possible when you understand what your residents need, what your staff need and what the industry needs at different points in time. It means achievement and recognition from both those we serve and those we represent. It renews our enthusiasm in our commitment to grow, adapt and succeed. Besides this philosophical analysis, it is ‘one hell of a buzz’! ◾️What set you and Keyton apart to win the category? Commitment and resilience. In other words, ‘Dress Up, Turn Up, understand What’s Up and stay on the Up & Up!’. It produces sustained results which sets you apart and then you have to commit to maintaining that advantage. When Will Durant interpreted Aristotle by saying, “We are what we repeatedly do, therefore Excellence is not an act, but a habit”………….I think he captured what we work to achieving today, tomorrow and for the future………..but in a less ‘Cool’ way! ◾️How excited are you about the recent Keyton rebrand and future? For me, personally, it means opportunity to reinvent ourselves without boundaries and grow into our own identity. #Keyton

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 ✨At Keyton, we’re dedicated to creating age-friendly retirement communities that enable older Australians to live safely, continue personal growth and stay actively involved in their communities. That’s why our retirement villages are designed to support the wellbeing and independence of all residents, ensuring they can continue to contribute meaningfully to society. The recent Intergenerational Report by the federal government highlights the growing need for age-appropriate retirement living options. With Australia’s population aged 75 and over expected to rise significantly by 2040, the importance of these communities cannot be overstated. Daniel Gannon, Executive Director of the Retirement Living Council, underscores the socio-economic benefits of expanding age-friendly retirement villages. He notes that residents in these communities are less likely to require hospitalisation and have fewer interactions with GPs and hospitals, ultimately delaying entry into aged care and saving the government millions annually. Health benefits of retirement villages: 💚20% less likely to require hospitalisation after 9 months 💚14,000 avoided annual hospitalisations #HealthyAgeing #RetirementLiving #Keyton

𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐬 💚 It’s National Carers Week and we’re taking this time to recognise the incredible contributions that family and friend carers make to our community. Their dedication and strength are truly inspiring. 💪 Carers come from diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences, balancing their caring responsibilities with work, study and their own physical and mental health. At Keyton, we understand that many of our employees are also carers. Our flexible work environment, along with our Sick and Carers Leave policies, supports these employees in managing their responsibilities. We also recognise the carers among our residents and their families, who support others in various ways, from checking in on neighbours to providing meals and transportation. 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫? 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭! Encourage carers to prioritise their own health and wellbeing and seek support when needed. Our employee assistance program, Unmind, offers valuable resources and counselling. #NationalCarersWeek #SupportCarers #LeadWithHeart #Keyton #RetirementLiving
