I was lucky enough to be asked about how I use digital by the amazing team at SAZ MEDIA It was brilliant to be part of such an important showcase of how digital is used here in Stockport. https://lnkd.in/ergfYxEW For those of you who have seen my #RantyMcRantFace posts online, it may sometimes seem as though I don't like digital. I'm regularly complaining about people being forced to do things online, but the reality is, that despite my "mouthing off", I'm actually a big fan. The problem, and it's a big problem, is that people are forced to do things online. They are forced to do things online, even if they don't know how. They are forced to do things online, even if they don't have a computer. People are forced to do things online, even when they don't have access to broadband at home or data on their phones. The problem isn't digital. The problem is digital exclusion. If I'm awake then I'm probably online, which probably comes as no surprise considering that I build websites and teach web development for a living. I love digital. It definitely enhances my life in a variety of ways. I use the internet for work, personal stuff and general entertainment. All day, every day. I first used a computer at school in the eighties and I've been online banking and using DVLA's website to tax my car since the late nineties. I'm lucky enough to have a smartphone contract with loads of data and have broadband at home and my various workplaces. Unfortunately this isn't the case for everyone and that's why I feel that I have to keep popping up and reminding people that access to digital is still very uneven. The good news is that being part of networks like the Stockport based DigiKnow Alliance, The Greater Manchester Digital Inclusion Taskforce and the National Digital Inclusion Network, I'm able to help people. I regularly show people how to get online and as a local databank I can provide prepaid sim cards, to help people access the internet. Digital is part of every day life, but unfortunately access to digital technology is definitely not yet universal. #DigiKnow #DigitalForAll #FixTheDigitalDivide
