Internationalsization of Higher Education Part 1 In the current climate of international student cap in Australia, it's even more imperative to internationalise higher education successfully. I reflected upon my experience teaching a summer course for exchange students at the National University of Singapore and teaching an international class at the Master of Strategic Communication Management at International Programs, Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. There are three key lessons I have learned. 1. Discussion-based & student-centered pedagogies foster intercultural friendships among students very well. 2. Site visits to local cultures make learning more fun. International students appreciate learning opportunities outside the classrooms. 3. Remember that international education does NOT have to be between EAST and WEST only. Let's celebrate diverse cultures in our teaching and learning at the university!

https://lnkd.in/dYA_KWB4 Nice article by Turku Student Magazine (Tylkkäri): The number of international degree students at Turun yliopisto - University of Turku has been steadily increasing. Students of UTU, Shashika H. and Sammani Rajapaksha in the article share their experiences adjusting to life in Finland. They highlight the importance of support networks and orientation programs, though they face challenges like language barriers and difficulties integrating with Finnish students. The university offers a comprehensive orientation, covering practical aspects like student services and Finland’s winter survival tips. While international students form strong communities among themselves, integration with Finnish students is limited, partly due to separate programs and language differences. Both Shashika and Sammani advocate for more events to bring together local and international students. International students also encounter challenges in finding work, especially due to limited Finnish language skills, which affects their ability to stay in Finland after graduation. The university and related organizations strive to support these students with career services, language courses, and job search assistance. However, there is still room for improvement in ensuring international students feel fully included in the broader university community.

Attention to all Marketing Professionals in the Education Sector! The tertiary enrolment rate in Vietnam has surged from 10% in 2001 to 29% in 2019, making it the fourth largest sending market for Australia in international students! According to INTO's survey of 1,000 Vietnamese "Generation Z" 16-25 aspiring international students and 500 parents, here are the key findings: • Improving English language skills is the greatest motivator for Vietnamese Gen Z students to study abroad, with 4 in 5 students emphasising the influence of their parents in study abroad choices. • Cost of living and education, as well as safety, are top concerns for students and parents, while online content is overwhelmingly considered the most useful source for information gathering. • While English-speaking countries remain major destinations, over half are considering a foreign degree from an Asian university as one of their top 3 choices. With Vietnam's growing economy and the increasing interest in international education, GRG understands the challenges and opportunities. Do we nurture our international students' cultural capital and spiritual identities? I enjoyed an outstanding brainstorming session with ISANA NZ visionary Chris Beard. Thank you! Our discussion spanned the integral role of cultural knowledge, the importance of embracing and nurturing their Wairua - spiritual identities (beyond religion), and the unique perspectives offered through the Te Ao Māori worldview. How can we, as educators and facilitators, create a nurturing environment that respects and integrates these diverse elements to offer a truly incomparable experience in New Zealand? International students are not numbers or an avenue to get our economy back on track. How do we make our students feel welcome and inclusive? Are we doing enough? The conversation continued beyond integration. We delved into how pastoral care can shift from reactive to proactive and responsive, truly anticipating the needs of our students before they become pressing issues, which includes protecting them from serious risks like exploitation and modern slavery, which international students can be particularly vulnerable to due to financial pressures, visa restrictions, and language barriers. Thank you, Patricia Davidson, for your thoughtful and timely post on this topic https://lnkd.in/g8KZ25e8 This dialogue has sparked a fire to innovate and push boundaries. We have the potential to set global benchmarks for an exceptional, safe international student experience. Falcon Education offers an international school search service for families planning to move to Portugal. An international school is an extraordinary opportunity for children to receive a quality education in an international environment. Depending on where you live, you are faced with a large choice of international school. In the first step, it is very important to find a school that will match your child's talents, interests. Here are a few advantages that international schools provide: 🔹 International Approach: International schools usually use different curricula that develop critical thinking and creative skills of students. This approach helps children expand their worldview and understanding of different cultures. For example, in Portugal you can find educational programmes such as Montemorri, Walfdorf, A-levels, IB, French and German programmes. 🔹 In international schools, children are usually surrounded by English, which creates unique opportunities to learn foreign languages and develop language skills. Your children will also have Portuguese and a third foreign language. There are also schools where several other foreign languages are taught. 🔹 Intercultural interaction: In international schools, children from different countries and cultures learn together. This promotes understanding, tolerance and respect for different cultures and traditions. Your child will have the opportunity to make friends from different parts of the world. 🔹 Expanded opportunities for future careers: International schools provide children with the opportunity to study a variety of subjects and interests, which can contribute to future career choices abroad.
