It's a wrap, but also it's just the beginning! What an honor it has been to be an Obama Scholar at Columbia University. These 10 months in New York and at Columbia University have truly been life-changing! I am looking forward to utilizing the new skills and connections I've made to enhance our impact in Uganda. Here are a few highlights of my experience: 1) Classes at Columbia University: I had the privilege of learning from some of the best professors in the world at Columbia University. This Spring, I took classes on educational technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, and on building and scaling social impact at the School of International and Public Affairs. In the Fall, I studied strategic communications and entrepreneurship development and implementation at the School of Professional Studies. 2) Executive Coaching: I had a wonderful executive coaching experience with Kgobati Magome, who helped me refine my leadership approach. Her candid yet compassionate style helped me to discover how my areas of strength were also standing in my way of success as a leader. If anyone is looking for an executive coach, I highly recommend her! Also, she has a special talent for noticing even the smallest changes in body language. 3) Living at the International House: I had the privilege of living in the iconic International House, where I hosted two events. I-House is a cosmopolitan community of wonderful people, and I'm going to miss it dearly—the friends and the convenience of having a gym just one floor below my apartment. 4) Incredible Connections: During these 10 months, I met people that I never imagined I would ever meet in my lifetime. Life is indeed full of mysteries.   Special thanks to my faculty advisor, Dr. Kim McCall, PhD who ensured that I get the most out of this program, and many thanks to both the Obama Foundation and Columbia World Projects leadership team: Roya Zahed, Mauli Whitney, Rainah Umlauf, Daniella Sarnoff, Zachary K. Wong and Peter Twyman for this great opportunity! Thank you for taking good care of us. What does work life balance actually mean at top executive positions - here is my take. In one of my Leadership coaching session I was told by my coach that often leaders forget to know what they want for them as a leader before engaging into leadership . They do it for opportunities, monetay rewards etc . For me it was always being a people leader with an open mindset and self growth other things came as a compliment . But now I realize how important it is to balance what I want for me - coming home to have lunch 🥪 is one of that and this is by far the first time I have come home to have my Lunch rather sitting at my desk and eating and working through lunch . Over time, I went deeper, even retreating for a weekend to my village for reflection. In that quiet, I reconnected with my purpose, refined my strategy, and found clarity. This pause didn’t just bring rest—it was a strategic reset. By stepping back, I unlocked new ideas, boosted my creativity, and returned to work with renewed energy.
