SAF… A hot topic across aviation industry. In contributing to climate 2050 vision, ICAO goal to limit or reduce the impact of aviation greenhouse gas emissions on the global climate. SAF can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80%. On December 1, 2021, United airlines made aviation history by flying the first passenger flight from Chicago O’Hare international airport (ORD) to Ronald Reagan Washington National airport (DCA), powered by 100% SAF. What is SAF? Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a non- conventional (fossil derived such as oil, coal, and natural gas) aviation fuel. It is a fuel for aviation with an alternative feedstock (raw material from which fuels are produced) to crude oil. Feedstocks for SAF are varied; ranging from cooking oil, plant oils, municipal waste, waste gases, and agricultural residues. Current technology allows fuel to be produced from other non-biological resources. The chemical and physical characteristics of SAF are almost identical to those of conventional jet fuel and they can be safely mixed with the latter to varying degrees, use the same supply infrastructure and do not require the adaptation of aircraft or engines. Fuels with these properties are called “drop-in fuels” (i.e. fuels that can be automatically incorporated in the existing fuel system). To be continued….

Aviation Safety.….. IMSAFE wake up…stop it In recent news; both the pilot and copilot fell asleep for almost half an hour on a flight carrying 153 people😳. The incident happened on a commercial flight. Fortunately, it landed safely. In another flight, pilots got into a fight after takeoff, forcing cabin crew to intervene😡. Fortunately, it landed safely. This is definitely alarming safety concern… The pilot #IMSAFE checklist was developed to facilitate a self-analysis of pilot performance before any given flight, as a proactive approach to mitigate the risk of unfit crew in the cockpit. It considers five factors: illness, medication, stress, alcohol, fatigue, and emotion. The IMSAFE checklist is as important to the safety of a flight as any other aircraft checklist. Question: Does the airline Safety Management System (SMS) review completed IMSAFE checklists against established procedure and incident records to ensure effective compliance with safety protocols? The message: When IMSAFE is used properly, proactive safety action is taken. Remember, "If the pilot is not ready to fly, the airplane is not." 💚be safe💚

Aviation Safety……. What is going on? Are airline incidents noticeably increasing, or is it social media amplifying the visibility of incidents when they occur? Improved reporting and data collection methods may contribute to a perception of increased incidents. I think that authorities and airlines or whoever in charge should release transparent briefings as soon as possible to limit speculation. While some responsible parties provide news briefings, few authorities and airlines do so compared to global industry stakeholders. Transparency and timely communication from airlines and authorities are crucial for maintaining public trust in aviation safety. Suggestion: #ICAO and #IATA could play a significant role in promoting more consistent and transparent reporting practices across the industry to address these concerns.

Aviation Safety……….. #ICAO & IATA In a meeting with MR.Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the ICAO, said: - Safety is something that we need to be aware of every day and is built by every professional in the industry.💚 - we need systems that can predict future accidents and not rely on learning once an accident has happened.💚 "Fortunately, I had the opportunity to handle internal audits for both IATA IOSA operator and ICAO USOAP authority during my employment in the airline and AIB. respectively. familiarity with documents like Doc 9735, SMM, SMS, ISM, OSHA and other manuals, which serve as excellent standards references and excellent systematic safety hierarchy in place. For safety compliance and oversight. “Sharing is Caring” EASA said. The aviation industry safety in real need for deeper cooperation between ICAO & IATA, the two great global entities more than any time before to achieve UN 2030 &2050 objectives. - Even though having one target, different audit references and approaches create gaps. It is important to have the well to transparently identifying and addressing these gaps. - IATA has some 320 members from 120 states. IOSA audits are carried out by organisations accredited by IATA. ICAO has 193 Member States. USOAP audits carried out by ICAO’s experts. The question is, which approach is more dynamic considering manpower and compliance time frames. This comparison is essential for improving audit efficiency. - Development of a unified methodology/approach covering the safety requirements of both entities., and merging audits outcomes would facilitate a comprehensive understanding of necessary steps for improvement. Utilizing “AI” for data analysis, would enable stakeholders to access predictive data more efficiently, ultimately enhancing safety measures across the aviation industry……… be safe💚

Be #proactive for #safety. Ironically addressing the principle. A scene from the 1992 movie "UNFORGIVEN" of Clint Eastwood demonstrates that the best way to be safe, is to be proactive. Where Clint Eastwood (Munny) takes a proactive approach by surprising the Sheriff and his men, when the local sheriff was organizing a group of men to go after Munny and his partner. While discussing the roles each man will play in the pursuit, Munny suddenly appears and confronts the sheriff and his men, catching them off guard. It's a pivotal moment where Munny demonstrates his determination and willingness to take action.😊 💚4 oscars film💚 The message; Don’t wait until the undesired happens then react. Instead take proactive steps while in a safe position to maintain safety…

Aviation Safety: Be #Proactive It's vital to acknowledge that safety doesn't naturally improve over time; in fact, it relaxes over time. Aviation safety is a dynamic target and a paramount goal of the industry. Preventing avoidable mishaps is key, requiring proactive and predictive measures to prevent complications. This includes practical actions such as addressing changing weather conditions and unexpected behaviors of people and machines around, ensuring the reliability and functionality of safety equipment, adhering to safety procedures without shortcuts, and conducting thorough safety audits, not superficial ones just to meet requirements. Cultivating a proactive culture that prioritizes safety above operational demands is essential. By adopting a proactive approach that includes predictive measures and situational awareness, the aviation industry can minimize risks and achieve positive outcomes. Reactive learning should complement, not replace, proactive approaches. Therefore, prioritizing safety and being proactive are essential for improving and maintaining safety records. The message: Noticeable increasing aircraft ground occurrences leading to significant damages and expenses, clarify the necessity for continuous improvements in safety protocols and procedures…. Be safe💚

Aviation Safety……… #Hot #Air #Balloons Definition of Aircraft: Any machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the reactions of the air other than the reactions of the air against the earth's surface (ICAO, Annex 6). A balloon is a lighter-than-air aircraft that is not engine-driven and sustains flight through the use of either gas buoyancy or an airborne heater. Hot air balloons are commonly used for recreational purposes. Like any other aircraft in aviation, hot air balloons are licensed and regulated. Pilots (balloonists) must undergo substantial training and be highly competent to be licensed to operate a balloon. Hot air balloons are commonly used for recreational, sport purposes, and in special events. Recently, the hot air balloon ride market looks promising commercially, attracting more and more people for the thrilling experience of floating with the breeze hundreds of feet high and exploring attractive horizons and panoramic views. On the other side, the safety of hot air balloons. By ICAO definition, it is an aircraft that commercially carries passengers in a basket. Reviewing the hot air balloons history revealed that, accidents are rare, but often serious if happen. (God forbid). The message: To address the safety concerns associated with the growing popularity of hot air balloons, oversight and investigation authorities should proactively implement comprehensive safety measures to cope with it. While accidents involving hot air balloons are rare, historical data shows they can have serious consequences. Therefore, it's important to be prepared for any safety occurrences. “Hope for the best and prepare for the worst". Be safe….💚

Aviation Safety………. #Respect: Does respect influence safety? I would like to begin by thanking beautiful minds on the LinkedIn platform who respectfully share their diverse opinions. As we engage on this platform, we bring with us diverse appearances, beliefs, languages, and environments. Respecting these differences fosters a safety culture of cooperation, accountability, and mindfulness, which are fundamental elements in maintaining a positive safety dialogues. A genuine and constructive safety dialogue is cultivated when respect precedes the expression of one's thoughts and opinions, valuing honesty over power. It involves acknowledging and valuing the unique perspectives and backgrounds that each individual brings to the table. When people feel valued, they are more likely to engage in honest and constructive conversations, even when they disagree. The message: Removing communication barriers will contribute to safety measures because considering safety from various perspectives is very important and will enhance overall safety.
