Executive Director | Leading Sustainable Solutions in Environment, Water, and Energy | Driving Innovation & Growth Across Global Markets
Recently I got a chance to be a part of “Private Sector Forum at the 3rd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028”. Given the significance of the event here are the few key takeaways. The private sector market in water management in Central Asia is becoming increasingly attractive investment and innovation opportunity due to the region's significant challenges. These challenges stem from an arid and semi-arid climate, uneven distribution of water resources, and outdated infrastructure. These issues present significant opportunities for the private sector to develop sustainable water management solutions in areas such as water supply and distribution, irrigation systems, wastewater treatment, desalination, water-efficient technologies, and digital solutions; It is being noted that Central Asian governments are playing a crucial role in fostering a robust private sector market in water management by providing essential regulatory and policy frameworks along with financial incentives; It is envisaged that the private sector's role in water management in Central Asia is expected to grow, driven predominantly by the increasing demand for efficient and sustainable water solutions. Key areas of focus will likely include expanding public-private partnerships (PPPs), investing in innovative technologies and practices to address water management challenges, and strengthening regional cooperation by involving the private sector in transboundary water management initiatives; and It is being understood that government support is pivotal for unlocking the potential of the private sector in water management in Central Asia. By creating conducive policy environments, facilitating PPPs, providing financial incentives, and enhancing institutional capacities, governments can attract private investment and foster innovation in the water sector. This collaborative approach can significantly improve water resource management, ensuring sustainability and resilience in the face of growing challenges. SMEC's involvement in Central Asia spans a wide range of sectors, with a strong focus on water management, infrastructure development, and sustainable energy projects. By leveraging its global expertise and fostering local partnerships, SMEC is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the region's development goals and address critical challenges in water and infrastructure and thus supporting the growth of private sector in water management in Central Asia. #SMEC hashtag #WaterAction hashtag #SustainableDevelopment hashtag #DushanbeWaterProcess hashtag #realimpactmadetogether Bob Tilbury, James Prothero, Dan Spackman, Ashley Zanetti, Kawa BAHA, Srivathsa C M, Hassan Ahmad https://lnkd.in/dFx_UQJc

🌊💧 Happy World Water Day! 💧🌊 As we commemorate #WorldWaterDay, I am reminded of the critical importance of water resources management, not only globally but also within the context of #Azerbaijan. Water is an invaluable asset for #Azerbaijan, a country blessed with water resources from the #CaspianSea, rivers like the #Kura and #Aras, and abundant groundwater reservoirs. These resources support various sectors crucial to Azerbaijan's economy, including #agriculture, #energy, and #industry. However, despite this abundance, challenges persist. Climate change impacts, inefficient water usage, and pollution threaten the sustainability of Azerbaijan's water resources. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts from government, industry, academia, and civil society. On this World Water Day, let's renew our commitment to sustainable water management practices in Azerbaijan. Let's harness innovation, promote water conservation, and implement policies that ensure equitable access to clean water for all Azerbaijani citizens. Together, we can safeguard Azerbaijan's water resources, ensuring they remain a source of prosperity and resilience for generations to come. Happy World Water Day! 💙 #WaterIsLife #SustainableDevelopment #Azerbaijan #WaterConservation #ClimateAction #SDG6
