I am privileged to have been invited to attend this forum in Paris in person, as part of my research on anti-corruption issues, which I will also be representing at another very important event. And I thank my friends and colleagues for put me in this activity. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in a GSCP-certified course on the Arms Trade Treaty in the same time. These two issues are logically and harmoniously integrated into my research on National Security and are relevant to some of my projects concerning Georgian Society and Economic Development, and Georgia Society Self-Defense Conception as well. You see, humans possess intelligence, and from that, we have invented Artificial Intelligence. However, the most powerful form of intelligence lies within kind, smart, and positive societal intelligence. You can never accumulate and produce knowledge alone as efficiently and swiftly as you can when surrounded by intelligent and Positive people. This forum is as bright and intelligent as our times are bright and intelligent! These past two days were very informative. I hope all the important remarks that were and will be presented during this forum will be fulfilled. I am in touch. https://lnkd.in/dAqVue2P

This is a very systematic and focused summary of various options in play right now. There are several important lessons that emerge from this document: (1) The tension between legitimacy and efficiency will continue to be a factor (2) Any new regime has to operate in a new world where the reactions of the two main (problematic) tech suppliers - China and Russia - have to be considered (3) For most of the non-Members of the MECRs, who have adopted or are thinking of adopting/adapting the EU dual-use lists, MECRs are only relevant for changes in control lists as of now, and enforcing any updates requires domestic political commitment, which changes with almost every national election. (4) UNSCR 1540 may be useful as the basis for a new regime, but its own implementation structures within the UN system would be a major obstacle. (5) The main ingredient towards any serious initiative to update the existing STC architecture to either exclude Russia and China, or to include new technologies of (economic) concern, will require a lot of political will - (a) to develop consensus among new suppliers and (b) to provide tangible incentives to those in the developing world who have yet to see the economic advantages of compliance with MECRs without being members.

Thoughts on new regime issues here.
Have you ever considered whether “A new configuration of strategic trade control regimes” is possible? Or likely? Or even desirable? Then, do not miss the last #ChaudfontaineGroup’s deliverable to which I had the pleasure to contribute. I recently had the pleasure of taking part of a geopolitical discussion between my friend Linas Kojala, Director of the Eastern Europe Studies Centre, and Dalia Grybauskaite, the former president of Lithuania. 10 years ago, it would have been an interesting discussion and relevant for my personal knowledge and growth. In today’s environment, it becomes relevant even in my professional capacity. The world is changing at an ever-increasing pace, new rules and mores are being written on how nations interact with each other, and even traditional trade routes are being challenged. These changes have consequences on our business. Not solely in terms of switching from a just-in-time approach to a just-in-case approach, not only in terms of monitoring constantly changing sanctions and other similar trade controls, but also in terms of what products are going to be relevant down the road. Where we need to invest in human footprint. How we should allocate our capital. Geopolitics are relevant.

"Hubs of Illicit Trade in the Global Economy" edited by Yulia Krylova is now in production. The book meticulously examines how centers of illicit trade pose myriad threats to global security and sustainable development. Emphasizing the phenomenon of crime convergence associated with these hubs, the book offers actionable recommendations for disrupting their interconnected illicit supply chains, infrastructures, and networks. It is the latest title in the series Routledge Transnational Crime and Corruption, edited by Louise Shelley - now part of my list. Certified independent director, board member and advisor to corporations, governments and international organisations (EMEA, US, UK). Founder of The Mediterranean Growth Initiative.
This is a serious step. Europe to appoint a Commissioner on the Mediterranean (like a cabinet minister looking at the engagement between EU and its frontline markets in the Mediterranean). Migration control might be the EU motive. Every euro dedicated to supporting the economies of non EU Med must be targeted to improving people’s lives and share of opportunity. EU and partner governments must be accountable. Data collection and analysis will become more important - to track progress and policy impact. This is our mission at The Mediterranean Growth Initiative. We are excited with the possibilities. Mediterranean Growth Initiative (MGI) European Commission
Mediterranean Growth Initiative (MGI) welcomes President Ursula von der Leyen’s intention to raise the role of the #Mediterranean in #Europe’s geopolitical strategy and to appoint a commissioner. MGI will continue to champion the significance of the region in global trade and policy making through data and analysis. ELIAMEP (Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy)
