I have a love-hate relationship with Nairobi. Like, that one Ex you've had 15 breakups. The only redeeming bit is the Holy Grail of Meru tribe - Tearoom Bus Terminus. It feels like cultural treason if I do not join my kinsmen in that dingy pub called Muringa. It stinks, man - like they built it atop an open sewer line. What amazes me, though - is the bustling business at Tea Room. I have family here. We get to bond. Like, Anto - he's earned his bread at Tearoom for the last decade, all without a specific job description. On a BAD day, Anto makes over 800 bob daily as a 'Matatu Setter'. What's that? You ask. A Matatu Setter's job description is to 'fill up vehicles' on the waiting bay. Once the next Matatu gets on line, Anto and Co. board - act as passengers. You'll come, see a half-filled Matatu and think you are departing next moment. Except, as one passenger gets in - one Setter gets off. Plus one, minus one. Anto and Co. earns 20/- each per Matatu. Imagine that. If you take the job seriously, report at 5am. You'll be a Setter on more than 80 Matatu's that depart for Meru on SLOW days. Do the math. Peak seasons, Anto works half-day 😂 Man needs a break! That's the beauty of Nairobi. You cannot sleep hungry, especially if you can leave your ego and pride at home. And so we write ✒©️ #storytelling #nairobi #newpost

CREATING KNOWARE PT 10 – REFLECTIONS FROM Clare Somerville, ONE OF KNOWARE’S FOUNDERS: OUTSIDE THE COMFORT ZONE There are many times running a company when you can get pushed outside your comfort zone. It might be meeting difficult people or discussing an area which is not your strength. I would go on holiday and for some reason I would see certain activities as a test of my capability to run a company. I would say to myself: if you can't do this thing then how can you run a company? I was on holiday in Maui and where better to do some parasailing? They advertised the highest parasailing in Maui at 1,000 feet. That sounded good. We set off in the boat; my husband reckoned growing up in Nigeria was all the excitement he needed and elected to stay in the boat. They wind you out gradually so it's not dramatic like the reverse bungy which used to be on the corner of Taranaki Street, Wellington. It is stunning. Blue sea and sky, palm trees lining the shore. It's so quiet, just the slight creaking of the ropes above your head. You look down and where has the boat gone? At that height the boat became a tiny speck in the far distance. Now the palms (mine this time) are a little sweaty, but I comfort myself with the thought they have done this a thousand times and, being America, they know if things go wrong they get the pants sued off them. I relax into it and enjoy the experience. Yes, I can do this. #BusinessAnniversary #21YearsStrong #MilestoneCelebration

“Extra working/Late sitting in Ramadan” During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink. This fasting is accompanied by increased prayers, spiritual reflection, and acts of charity. For those who are working, whether in office settings, businesses, or other professions, managing work responsibilities alongside the demands of fasting can be challenging. Some individuals may choose to take on extra work to compensate for reduced productivity during fasting hours, while others may find it difficult to maintain their usual workload due to fatigue or decreased energy levels. Employers and leaders can support those fasting during Ramadan by offering flexibility in work hours, providing suitable time NO LATE SITTING, and understanding the potential impact of fasting on productivity and energy levels. Additionally, fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment where employees feel supported in practicing their religious observances can contribute to a positive working experience during Ramadan. Atleast 🇵🇰 🙏

Balancing Blessings in Ramadan: Time Management at Norwood Hardware Ramadan Mubarak to everyone celebrating! This holy month brings a special focus on spiritual growth, but for entrepreneurs, it can also be a time of intense work. Here at Norwood Hardware, we're in the final throes of stock take before our grand opening. While I cherish the pre-dawn Suhoor meal at 4:30 am, heading straight to work after Fajr prayer keeps the day moving. The good news? Early closing at 3 pm allows for some much-needed rest and additional prayers throughout the day. Finding balance during Ramadan is key! Here are some tips I've found helpful: Planning is essential: I prioritize tasks before Ramadan to minimize the workload during fasting hours. Embrace the early hours: The quiet pre-dawn offers a focused and productive time for focused work. Listen to your body: Taking short breaks for prayer and hydration keeps energy levels up. Delegate where possible: Empowering my team allows me to focus on essential tasks. May this Ramadan bring blessings and prosperity to all! #ramadanmubarak #TimeManagement #NorwoodHardware #GrandOpeningSoon
