In 2009 as a first-year, founding teacher under a first-year principal at a new alternative high school in the NYC Department of Education, I made a call to author my own Algebra curriculum in the absence of high quality core math materials. A program like Illustrative Mathematics at my disposal would've saved me a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (and may have given me time to make friends - people like me, I swear). I applaud this effort from David C. Banks and his team; we must take big, bold steps to deliver on the promise of public education. #teachers #curriculum #HQIM #edtech #math #k12education

It was 2012 for me in an elementary aspect. My grade level team and I had to search and create our math lessons. I will say it helped me become an even better teacher moving forward. When moving districts and taking those skills with me, definitely helped me differentiate the instruction.

I had the same experience as a first-year science teacher. It’s incredibly exciting to see the difference high quality instructional materials can make for schools and teachers, and it has been an honor to work on producing them!

Part of the reason I moved into designing digital math curriculum was because i saw gaps in digital math curriculums when I was a math lead teaching grades six through eighth.
