Fines for children being taken out of school are increasing. This has never sat right with me for a few reasons. 1. Schools Aren’t the Only Places Kids Learn This outdated idea that education only happens within school walls is absurd. Kids can learn just as much, if not more, from real-world experiences and opportunities outside the classroom. 2. It Strips Away Family Freedom These fines take away a family's right to make decisions that are best for their children. If a family has a chance to do something truly enriching, why should they be punished for grabbing that opportunity? 3. Schools Can’t Solve Everything The assumption that schools can address every issue a child might face is naive. Parents are the true key to a child’s success, not a rigid school system. Studies back this up—time and time again, research shows that the biggest factor in a child’s education is the involvement of their parents, not the school they attend. Sure, we don’t want rampant truancy, but a little flexibility to let kids experience life outside of school could actually boost their chances of success. Let’s stop pretending that schools are the be-all and end-all of education and start recognizing the value of diverse learning experiences. Following Dominic McGregor for more insightful content. ♻️

Children who transition well from primary to secondary are more likely to be engaged in their learning, and have a handle on their social and emotional wellbeing. Guide to Thrive can help with that. ACER contributed to this resource for teachers, students, parents and carers with research that included hearing from hundreds of young people about their expectations, concerns and ideas on what could make this huge change easier for them. Guide to Thrive is free for year 6 and 7, with activities for each term suitable for most students to complete independently or with teacher support, and relevant to each state and territory. https://brnw.ch/21wG4VL

This collaboration also fosters more motivated students. Young people maintain higher educational aims and lower rates of dropout. Students with involved parents have better attendance, complete more homework, and have higher enrollment in educational opportunities after high school. Parents can participate at school by helping with functions and activities, or communicating with teachers. They can also be involved at home in many ways, including guiding their children to manage homework and other commitments and engaging in discussions about values and attitudes regarding education'. Getting children ready for a new school year can be a struggle for many families. School Savvy FNQ is an initiative designed to help. School Savvy FNQ aims to help as many children as possible be ‘back-to-school ready’, with the appropriate resources required to succeed. This ensures that back-to-school costs are not a barrier to accessing education and reduces the child’s risk of isolation and disengagement. To help ease the back-to-school financial pressure that some families face, School Savvy brings together second hand uniforms, common booklist stationery supplies, and hairdressers for back-to-school hair cuts. Returning kids to school for the new year with the right resources means that the impacts of the financial distress some families face will not stand in the way of a quality education. https://lnkd.in/dYUdX2HX

Choosing a school is a big decision with a huge impact on your child’s future! Georgia families have access to various K-12 school options, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, private schools, online learning, homeschooling, and microschooling. Most children (84%) attend traditional public schools, which are free and funded by federal, state, and local governments. Open enrollment allows for some flexibility, letting families transfer their child to any public school within their district if space is available. #Microschooling is an innovative option where small groups of students learn together with personalized instruction. Examples in Georgia include KaiPod Learning, Moonrise in Decatur, and St. John Bosco Academy. The Georgia Promise Scholarship Act, effective for the 2025-2026 school year, will provide eligible students with a $6,500 scholarship, offering even more educational choices for families. Explore these options to find the best fit for your child's unique needs and interests. #SchoolChoice #EducationReform #GeorgiaEducation #Microschooling #PublicSchools #Homeschooling #K12Education #ParentsGuide #EducationalOptions #GeorgiaFamilies #FutureOfEducation
