#childhoodobesity is a major concern nowadays. Cases are risen post covid era. It definitely has left the kids obese with zero physical activity and more Junk. We definitely need some measures to stop this else We end up with young diabetic patients as Diabetes runs in our genes! What’s your thought on this? Schools should take measures in combating this issues. *It should be mandatory to have a dietitian on board in Schools to keep a check on kids. *Compulsory yoga classes for all kids till 12th. *Sports should be an integral part of school curriculum. *Continous Nutrition Education should be imparted to kids. It should be compulsory for all the kids. They should understand the value of health in the earlier years. Please share if you have any other suggestions on it !

The Family and the Child (2) Continuing from my previous post on the profound impact of the family environment on a child's growth and development, I'd like to highlight two family/social factors that play out broadly: the health-seeking behavior of the family and attentiveness to the child’s needs. 4. Health-Seeking Behavior: Subtly and , this has a lifelong influence on a child. How a family approaches health care plays a major role in determining a child's health outcomes. A family that is proactive—seeking regular medical check-ups, vaccinations, and promoting healthy lifestyle choices—instills in their children a strong value for self-care and preventive health practices. This proactive stance contrasts sharply with a reactive approach, where medical attention is sought only when issues become severe and untoward complications set in, with gradually reducing quality of life. Following a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), children who receive regular preventive care are 30% more likely to avoid severe health issues later in life compared to those who only receive care in emergencies. This highlights the importance of establishing a proactive health-seeking behavior early on, which can significantly reduce the risk of chronic illnesses and improve overall health outcomes as children grow into adulthood. 5. Attentiveness to the Child's Needs: Nurturing Individual Potential. Every child is unique, with their own set of needs, dreams, and challenges. Families that actively listen to and engage with their children help them feel valued and understood. This attentiveness not only nurtures a child's self-confidence but also encourages these children to explore the interests they have and become more innovative. Findings from the American Psychological Association (APA) indicates that children who feel heard and understood by their parents are 20% more likely to perform well academically and 40% more likely to exhibit strong social skills. This data underscores the profound impact of parental attentiveness on a child's development, influencing their ability to succeed both in school and in social environments. Families play a critical role in shaping a child's health and development and this is a constant reminder that the environment we create at home has a lasting impact on a child's future. About 5 children in each classroom have asthma, which can be worsened by poor indoor air. TIME TO CLEAN THE AIR. Asthma is a lung disease that makes it hard to breathe and that causes symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing or a feeling of tightness in the chest. Here are some facts about asthma: - 15% of children in Canada have asthma and it is one of the leading causes of hospitalization in children. - For every hospitalization for asthma, there are eight emergency room visits! - Asthma is also the leading cause of school absences in Canada. Having clean indoor air is an equity issue. All students deserve a clean, healthy environment in which to learn and thrive. Improving indoor air quality in schools and on school buses will make it easier for kids with asthma to attend and learn at school. Asthma is just one of many ways in which poor indoor air quality affects families. On Day 5 of our #CountdownToCleanAir Day, we are asking for your help in gathering information on the ways in which Ontarians are negatively affected by the air quality in schools, childcare centres and school buses. If you or someone you know has been impacted by the poor indoor air quality in schools, we hope you will consider submitting your IAQ Impact Statement to Ontario School Safety.
