While I'm not much of an end-of-year wrap-up/New Year's Resolution person, this year some of my parts liked the idea of picking a Word of the Year for 2024. My most resonant were words related to growth and expansion. I settled on.... 🥁 Bloom 🌺 What I LOOOOVE about this word is that it reflects something approaching it's peak maturation phase, but there's still an opening and expansive quality too. Not yet done, but coming into fullness. A few things are already budding over here: ~ I'm gonna hit a Major Milestone Birthday in 2024. Literally blooming. ~ I've enrolled in a 2yr post-graduate diploma program in Positive Psychology and Coaching. I freaking loooove learning and being in learning environments so much. Can't be more excited. ~ Rediscovering the pride of my inner kindergartner. This here is my first ever attempt at a watercolor painting. And while it's definitely amateur hour, it's not bad! I was giggling all the way home like a five year old ready to show off my work to anyone who'd look. I'm going to keep playing around with watercolor this year b/c it's such a delight. As you celebrate your children/wards who received prizes for coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, also celebrate and encourage your children/wards who score beyond and below average. While positions offer insight into where a pupil or student stands within a specific group, they don’t capture all aspects of academic excellence. It began as a fun activity for the learners in my church's children's ministry, where each child was given an identification tag for secure pickup. As parents picked up their children, they would add the tag to a ticket ball. With every tag added, the ball expanded, becoming a tangible representation of the engagement, progress, and impact we were making. I couldn't help but recognize the profound significance of this simple symbol. This experience made me reflect on my professional life and question if I had similarly powerful symbols. The sticker ball, with its visible growth, provides a clear measure of impact and progress. It made me realize the importance of having tangible markers that we can figuratively and literally feel the weight of. These symbols serve as reminders of our accomplishments and inspire us to continue to work towards improved engagement and progress. As we enter into 2024, let's aim to create and embrace these impactful symbols. Let's find ways to track progress, celebrate success, and remind ourselves of the profound impact we can make through our work.

A Child’s Imagination in Action: Lessons from a 4-Year-Old As my dear nephew approaches his 5th birthday in a few days, I was amazed by this artwork he created. The flowers, drawn with such precision for his age, truly caught my attention. However, what intrigued me even more was the character in the middle. When I asked him about it, he explained that it was inspired by cartoon characters, he saw in a cartoon serial—"Wolfoo". He said,he noticed that in the cartoon world, even non-living things like television, cars, - have faces, hands, and expressions. His imagination took that concept and transformed it into this drawing—a pencil with a face, eyes, hands, and a mouth. So,this explains the character in the middle of his drawing. This experience made me realize just how influential the media can be on young minds. I’m really impressed with how he took inspiration from TV and used his imagination to shape it into something so creative and unique, considering his age. At the same time, it’s a reminder for us as adults to be mindful of what children are exposed to. While fostering creativity is crucial, so is offering guidance and continuous education. It showed me that when the media and imagination are harnessed in a creative and positive way, they have the power to bring beautiful ideas to life, benefiting not just ourselves but humanity as a whole. When a 4-year-old can learn so much with such limited exposure to the world, imagine the wonders we can achieve as responsible citizens of our country. It’s wonderful to see how my nephew absorbs creative ideas and channels them through his imagination. As kids grow, they interpret and internalize everything they see and hear. And in this fast-paced world, where children are exposed to so much at an early age, it's essential to strike a balance between creative freedom and mindful exposure. Looking at this drawing, I’m filled with hope for the future. With the right support and nurturing, these young minds will continue to surprise us and achieve great things.
