We are pleased to announce that Stephen Slessor, CEO of RSE, has been appointed a strategic advisor for RAPID. RAPID was formed to help accelerate the development of new water infrastructure and design future regulatory frameworks. Stephen brings over two decades of experience in these sectors, and will play a key role in supporting the procurement and delivery of one of the largest water infrastructure investments in the UK for a generation. As the UK faces increasing challenges related to climate change and population growth, the need for resilient water infrastructure is greater than ever. RAPID aims to address these challenges through collaboration, innovation, and a focus on long-term sustainability. Stephen's advisory role will support RAPID in our mission to secure the UK's long-term water resilience, and will be key in shaping procurement strategies, engaging with the supply chain, and supporting the successful delivery of RAPID. This appointment highlights Ofwat's commitment to bringing together industry leaders to ensure the effective delivery of the UK's future water infrastructure. **Thames Water's ambitious AMP8 Plans**. I've been talking a lot about Thames water to various sources over the last few months. It seems like this is a solution to certain recent issues. The revision to their AMP8 Business Plan promises a significant escalation in investment, aiming to bolster environmental projects without increasing customer bills. Initially proposing £18.7 billion for the period from 2025 to 2030, the UK's largest water utility has now envisioned a total spend that could soar as high as £21.7 billion. Key Highlights of Thames Water's Revised AMP8 Business Plan: 👉 Initially set at £18.7 billion, revised to increase total expenditure to £19.8 billion for environmental enhancements, with the potential to reach £21.7 billion. 👉 Adjustments made post extensive stakeholder discussions to more robustly address environmental concerns. 👉 Planned adjustments in operating and capital expenditures ensure no increase in projected average customer bill of £608 by 2030. 👉 An additional £1.9 billion may be allocated for further projects via a "Deliverability Assessment Mechanism," potentially increasing customer bills by £19 annually. CEO Chris Weston emphasises focus on environmental priorities and ongoing dialogue with regulators and stakeholders to refine the proposals. This strategic increase in Thames Water's investment underscores their commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship, aiming to enhance service quality without burdening customers financially.
