The Taylor Swift Effect: Kristin Juszczyk, wife of San Francisco 49ers Fullback Kyle Juszcyzk, has secured a licensing deal with the NFL. Juszczyk created a puffer jacket for pop icon Taylor Swift that Swift donned as she attended a Chiefs game in support of her boyfriend, All-Star Tight End Travis Kelce. As you can image, Juszczyk went viral and the Swiftie fandom was clamoring to get some of this merch. Juszczyk also created a Detroit Lions puffer jacket for actor Taylor Lautner the next week. I thought to myself: "How can this be legal? Without a license from the NFL, isn't Juszczyk violating some Intellectual Property rights of the NFL?" Well, my thoughts were rendered moot, after news broke this morning that the NFL brokered a deal with Mrs. Juszczyk. I hypothesize that the NFL will receive a certain percentage of royalties on all sales made (I imagine upwards of 25-30%, since they are a huge company). The wireless infrastructure of the last two new stadiums is owned by the venue owner. I have negotiated agreements for sports venues representing the interests of a wireless carrier, a neutral host, and venue owners. Each of these parties have diverse interests. Venue owners should seriously consider who owns and controls the technology as they plan a new stadium or upgrade existing systems. Consider the following key points: 1. The initial cost of ownership or CAPEX. 2. Will you onboard all carriers in the market starting day 1? 3. Who will be responsible for upgrading the network?
