❄ Are ice baths the future of work, replacing boardrooms and fancy restaurants for making important business decisions? If you often think of the Roman Empire, you will be familiar with the concept of communal spaces not only for bathing but also serving as social hubs to conduct business. At the time, Roman bathhouses symbolised power and wealth. The ability to frequent these communal spaces was often restricted to those of higher social standing, such as wealthy merchants and influential citizens. As a result, being seen at the bathhouse became a status symbol, signifying one's social rank and influence. Today, "social wellness clubs" such as Remedy Place, offering a blend of self-care, human connection, and high-tech wellness treatments, are trending. In 2023 more than 64,000 reservations were made and some members spent up to $27,000 a year to enjoy the facilities. This trend is not just a fad but a reflection of the increasing importance of wellness in the business world, where productivity and health are considered metrics of success. It presents a unique opportunity for the hospitality industry to redefine its role and become a key player. The rise of the Equinox hotel confirms this direction.
