🚀 Week 5 at VFXTalk! 🚀
I’m back from a week-long vacation to see some exciting developments! It’s the perfect 40th birthday present to see that our VFXTalk Discord community has doubled in size, jumping from 53 during week 3 to 156 members last week!
It was thrilling to see all the growth, so much so that Discord's automated security protocols momentarily mistook it for a "raid" event, lol. But it was nothing more than the power of grassroots efforts and word-of-mouth.
This experience underscored a valuable lesson. Rebuilding something as great as VFXTalk once was is a marathon and it’s absolutleyworth doing. It's about brick by brick and there are no shortcuts. Let's keep the momentum going and I can’t wait to see what it looks like in a year’s time.
Some of our popular threads this week are:
1. “Shogon, anyone watching?”: https://lnkd.in/dfdeDYcq This is one my personal favorite new shows and it’s so cool to get to talk to some of the talented artists working on this new series. Lots of talk about comp’ing blood and set extensions. Sounds like we have quite an amazing season to look forward to!
2. “VFX Pros AMA”: https://lnkd.in/d_4vTmTF we have quite a few high level professionals who started open ended threads where anyone can ask anything!
3. “Young Sherlock Holmes CGI turns 40”: https://lnkd.in/g2mFiq3f I posted this on my birthday, but how cool is it to look back and see where our industry really kicked off?
4. Demo reels!: https://lnkd.in/dXDErxzE come see all the great work our members have been responsible for. Very inspiring! What’s equally cool are when students post their reels and get to receive critiques from their peers in the industry. Constructive critique is one of those skills that is a cornerstone of all great artists. Come check them out!
Now here’s the copy/paste part of the post that you’ll see often because time is short and I’m inherently lazy:
💡 Here's How You Can Help Us Grow!
1. Join the community at https://lnkd.in/gwywTJsh - if you haven't already, we'd love to meet you! Come by to say hi!
2. Spread the word about our community to friends who might be interested. The more the better!
3. Embrace Discord - it's really an amazing tool for community building, it’s definitely not just for gaming! The bots alone are kind of mind blowing when you really dig in. We have one currently providing summaries of top posts and also a bot to set the job status of members looking for a new gig. So helpful!
Anyways, let's continue to grow and rebuild a space we lost for a time where every voice matters and every experience contributes to our collective growth as a VFX community.
Join us at VFXTalk - let's build something extraordinary together.
