The new 2024 Motherly® report is out about the State of Motherhood. Among the wealth of data gathered from nearly 6000 Gen Z and Millennial mothers, one statistic stood out. *Two-thirds of moms considered leaving the workforce last year due to the stress and cost of childcare, highest among Gen Z at 82%. Based on previous reports, these numbers are at an all-time high. This stress is exactly why it is so crucial to have support for employees navigating caregiving responsibilities. https://lnkd.in/g_7zz9zY

Motherly®'s 2023 #StateOfMotherhood annual report has been released, and some of these numbers are staggering: -Nearly 2X more women became SAHMs in 2023 than in 2022 -67% of moms spend at least $1000 per month on childcare (it me!) -62% of moms report getting less than 1 hour to themselves each day (it me!) -46% of mothers are seeking therapy (it me!) This report shows us that now, more than ever!, moms (SAHM and moms who work outside of the home) need support and help to thrive. We cannot stop advocating for change. Matricentric Career & Leadership Coach ✨ | Career Management in Global Impact Jobs 🌐 | Ex-UN HR 🇺🇳 | Data-driven Career Development & Talent Acquisition Expert | Working Mom x2
Motherly®’s 2024 State of Motherhood report is out. The top two items I see as concerning: 1. Two-thirds of moms considered leaving the workforce last year due to the stress and cost of childcare, highest among Gen Z at 82%. 2. Up to 70% of moms sought therapy. We need quality childcare that doesn’t eat up two thirds of mom’s income. We need more options for part-time and flexible work for moms, including in leadership positions, so moms don’t have to choose between a career and their innate drive to nurture. And we need to bring back community and create more support systems that don’t require mom to hire paid help on her own. The moms I work with often feel left out. Once they’re moms, it becomes impossible for them to fill all the roles they want to fill to their satisfaction. They’re being pulled into two directions and we force them to make impossible trade-offs, which shows in the high number of moms seeking therapy or other kinds of support. Dr. Sophie Brock coined this tension as the care/career conundrum, and it’s making our moms unnecessarily suffer. Let’s create a matricentric work culture, where motherhood, ambition and family life can exist together 🤍 #motherhood #maternalmentalhealth #careermoms *********************** Hi, I’m Julia! 👋 I’m a Certified Coach and Motherhood Studies Practitioner on a mission to help mothers find success, joy and fulfillment between career and family life. Dynamic Social Studies Educator ☀️ Promoting inquiry and lifelong learning with an emphasis on relationships and social responsibility.
If you care about modern motherhood, read Motherly's State of Motherhood report for 2023. Actually... All of us should take the time to look over this report. Why? Because the challenges of mothers impact all of us. A few highlights that stood out to me: 🧒 Access to affordable childcare continues to be an issue and continues to drive women out of the workforce. This is not a choice; this is a societal issue that is pushing women out of the workforce. 🏡 More than half of moms report being primarily responsible for household duties. Only 32% report feeling they share the household duties evenly with their partner. If you believe you are carrying an equal load with your partner, look at the table on page 6. Unpaid labor among women is still a huge issue. 😩 It is also no shock with these numbers that half of all moms reported feeling burnt out as a mother. Seeing these numbers validates the conversations I am having daily among my closest friends. What can we do with this information? Well, first of all, we bring awareness to it. Then, we start with ourselves. We ask for help and show up where decisions are being made. We stop letting the fear of speaking up for what we need to overshadow our performance. #motherhood #modernmotherhood #workingmom Link:

People-pleasing is about trying to please others so as to temporarily feel a bit safer It’s… Exhausting Stressful Anxiety provoking Fragile Vulnerable Never-ending And not something a child or adult can simply choose to stop doing As it’s a survival reaction that’s previously acted to keep them temporarily feeling a bit safer As when they could momentarily ‘make’ an adult less angry / scary / threatening and seemingly happier It gave them a moment of feeling slightly better and safer too So the survival reaction became a default programme that’s not just going to fade away Supporting a child or adult to very carefully release this survival reaction needs great care And work on their subconscious beliefs and behaviours The freedom that eventually comes from no longer flicking into pleasing others to try to feel safe is HUGE! 5moCompletely agree, Kimberly Didrikson. Motherly®'s reporting gives leaders/decision-makers (in workplaces and government) a window into moms' lives. It's such important work. Thanks for sharing this stat, which clearly shows that moms need support.
