🚨 Our Veterans Deserve Better – Act NOW 🚨 Many veterans who have suffered from Military Sexual Trauma (MST) are struggling without the retroactive disability pay they desperately need. HB6023, the Veteran Restitution and Justice Act of 2023, aims to fix this by providing financial support from the day they were discharged. Many of these heroes are left unable to work and even homeless due to the trauma they endured. This is unacceptable! Our politicians have the power to change this, but they need to hear from you. A client and I had a discussion today about the VA and other organizations relating to the assistance and resources Veterans are provided. One thing that was alarming were some of the policies in place to supposedly help, was actually a direct reason they needed even more help. In what insane world do we live in, where we want you as a Veteran to suffer MORE before you can get the assistance? You’re telling me in order for a Veteran to get financial assistance for example, most places require that you have X accounts overdue/pastdue. What if they recognize BEFORE things go overdue and start impacting their credit? Most places, “We are sorry, but you have to meet the minimum requirements to prove assistance is necessary.” IE if your accounts aren’t overdue, you’re up a creek without a paddle. Add on the claims/appeals process often taking months to years to complete. Then add the current job market and difficulties finding employment due to your disability. You have a recipe for disaster 9/10 times. We have to do more for those who have served our country honorably! #Veterans #Assistance #Military #DObetter #VA

Sharing good information if you are thinking of filing a claim for MST: A federal appeals court ruled in 2013 that the VA isn’t allowed to deny your claim because you were too afraid to report it at the time or because the military had a policy in place that effectively threatened your job if you did so. “Absence of service records is not a valid grounds for denial, and a veteran’s failure to report at the time is not valid grounds for denial." You can file a disability compensation claim for any health condition you have because of MST. National Guard/Reserves must have 90 days minimum of non-training active duty service or 6 credible years in the Selected Reserves (other terms apply - msg me for more info!). Spouses eligibility is reserved for surviving spouses of a service member or Veteran who died in the line of duty or from service-related disability (void is spouse remarries). 🇺🇸 Time on Station: Buyers should have a minimum of 2 years remaining on duty station where you’ll be purchasing a home. In the event you receive orders before that 2 year mark, call me!
