A cohort study published in World Neurosurgery from Allegheny Health Network and Nova Southeastern University examined the use of exoscopic technology (n=18) versus a traditional microscope (n=19) in anterior cervical procedures and the impact on surgeons posture and operative time. The study found that surgeons using the operative microscope spent significantly more time in a deviated posture than with the exoscope. Studies have found that a deviated posture could result in higher risk for the development of neck pain, degenerative cervical spine or lumbar disease, and work related physical debility.
