Digital Accessibility Manager at BT Group - EE Consumer Digital (Web and Mobile Standards, Universal Design, Best Practice, Digital Accessibility Programme Implementation)
Thanks to Steve Morland and the super team at Leighton for inviting me to participate in this amazing panel at TechNExt(The Tech Festival of the Northeast). I truly enjoyed discussing the subject with Daniel Benmore, Helen Robson , and James Lambert. The audience was also the best. You all made me feel welcome and relaxed. Also, thanks to Hayley Wood for the indication and Holli Taylor for the super organisation. And I couldn't leave out thanking for having a good excuse to visit Newcastle and seeing its stunning architecture. It's a positive development that we are increasingly being given platforms to discuss Digital Accessibility at mainstream events. This shift is a testament to the growing recognition of Digital Accessibility as a professional responsibility and not just a niche concern. We appreciate the work of champions. A good number of Digital Accessibility professionals, including myself, started as champions. But the work of Digital Accessibility professionals is not about being champions. It's a full-time job that demands a deep understanding of various domains, the ability to adapt to changing contexts, and a customer-centric approach that bridges design and engineering. We are a share capability, working collaboratively with every squad and teams. Our goal is to provide solutions that enhance the quality of digital products and ensure inclusivity for all, including people with disabilities. Organisations committed to Digital Accessibility must invest in accessibility by having a team of full-time professionals dedicated to this area. At EE Consumer, we are fortunate to have such a team. They make me proud of their hard work, commitment, resilience, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness - nothing like a good team to turn this rocky and stormy journey into an enjoyable adventure. Our profession lives and breathes on the original principles of the Web of democratising access to information. The web is an essential service, and we ensure that as many people as possible can access it, regardless of any differences. Having a job that gives us this sense of purpose is truly amazing. #a11y #DigitalAccessibility #Accessibility #Technology #North

Dear Diary, June 7, 2024This week has been an exhilarating journey as we immersed ourselves in the vibrant community of IT Nation and prepared for PartnerFest24. The energy and camaraderie at the beginning of the week were palpable, setting the stage for a week dedicated to deepening our understanding and connection with our partners. Empathy Mapping Insights: From our empathy map, we gained a comprehensive view of our partners' experiences. Journey Mapping Insights: Our journey map illuminated the various stages our partners go through and the touchpoints where we can make a difference Applying Our Insights: With PartnerFest24 on the horizon, we are translating these insights into actionable strategies to enhance our partners' experience: 1. Product Enhancements: We are prioritizing features that address the pains and amplify the gains identified in the empathy map. This includes tools for better time management, proactive alerts, and simplified processes. 2. Marketing Strategies: Our campaigns will highlight how we can help partners achieve stability and efficiency. We will use real partner stories to demonstrate our impact. 3. Support Initiatives: We are enhancing our support resources, creating detailed guides, and hosting interactive sessions to address common challenges. 4. Community Engagement: Building a strong partner community where they can share and learn from each other is a priority. We are investing in platforms and events that facilitate this exchange. Reflection: This week has reaffirmed the importance of empathy in our relationships with partners. By immersing ourselves in the community feel of IT Nation and gearing up for PartnerFest24, we've strengthened our commitment to understanding and addressing our partners' needs. I feel optimistic about the path ahead. As we continue to embed empathy into our strategies and actions, I believe we will build stronger, more resilient partnerships. Here's to a future where our partners feel understood, valued, and supported every step of the way. Until next time, #ITNJournal #ITNDiary #ITNation
