Let's talk about Bottom Trawling and how it devastates our oceans by destroying the seabed and releasing significant amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change and ocean acidification. What #KindrAction can we do about it? - Support sustainable fishing practices - Advocate for policies that restrict or ban bottom trawling - Choose seafood from sources that do not engage in bottom trawling - Raise awareness about the environmental impact of bottom trawling Share this post to help spread the word and protect our oceans! 🌊 #SustainableFishing #SaveOurSeas #OceanConservation #ClimateAction #EcoFriendly #ProtectMarineLife #MarineConservation #StopBottomTrawling #BanTrawling

🎣 As climate change heats up Montana's rivers, fly fishing guides face a moral quandary. With trout requiring cold, oxygen-rich waters to thrive, the warming environment is forcing anglers like KynsLee Scott to rethink when and how they fish. Restrictions on fishing times and shifts to cooler rivers are some of the adaptations being made. Conservation efforts are also in play, like habitat restoration and dam removals, to protect these vital ecosystems. But the question remains: How can the industry adapt to ensure both the sport and the trout survive? 🌡️🐟 #FlyFishing #ClimateChange #Conservation #MontanaRivers #SustainableFishing What steps would you take to balance your passion with environmental responsibility? Today is #WorldMangroveDay 🌱 We want to celebrate these incredible blue carbon ecosystems and the important role they play in maintaining our planet’s wildlife and climate. Mangroves are home to a unique range of species, such as manatees, dugongs, and the endangered Bengal tiger. They also provide shelter and food for juvenile fish, propping up fisheries and livelihoods around the world. Over 100 million people live within 10 kilometres of large mangrove forests, and rely on them for their food security and protection from storm surges. Mangroves absorb 70-90% of wave energy, helping to buffer their impact on coastal communities. They are also great allies in the fight against the #ClimateCrisis. Mangrove forests can store up to four times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial tropical forests. Despite their importance to the planet, approximately 35% of the world’s mangroves have been lost or degraded over the last century. Not only are important wildlife and ecosystem services being destroyed in the process, the destruction of mangrove ecosystems also risks converting this powerful carbon sink into a major carbon emitter. While mangrove losses have slowed significantly, mangrove cover is still dramatically lower than it was in the past, and we are running out of time to protect them. We must reverse this decline by restoring and protecting these critical habitats. https://lnkd.in/ecibArYz #Mangroves #Conservation #OceanAction #NatureRestoration

Mangrove restoration is a vital nature-based solution to the climate crisis, as mangroves provide multiple benefits for both mitigation and adaptation. Mangroves are coastal forests that can capture and store large amounts of carbon in their soil and biomass, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience. Mangroves also protect coastal communities and ecosystems from the impacts of sea level rise, storm surges, erosion, and flooding. Moreover, mangroves support livelihoods and food security for millions of people who depend on them for fishing, shellfish gathering, beekeeping, and ecotourism. Therefore, mangrove restoration is a crucial strategy to address the climate crisis and its consequences.

We already knew that bottom trawling is harmful to ocean habitats and wildlife – now a new study shows that scraping up the seafloor with fishing nets is also releasing 370 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year: https://lnkd.in/gdS3D_S8 The researchers have described bottom trawling as “marine deforestation” and are urging countries to include these emissions in their climate action plans, saying that the amount of carbon is simply “too big to ignore”. As a member of the Transform Bottom Trawling coalition, the WCA is calling for a ban on bottom trawling in Marine Protected Areas and an urgent, globally reduced bottom trawling footprint by 2030.

Adapting to a Changing Ocean Ecosystem Our approach to fishery management is designed to adapt as ocean conditions evolve. Guided by federal policy, the North Pacific is at the forefront of responding to ecosystem changes like ocean warming, ensuring we’re prepared for shifts in fish populations and their habitats. We proudly support forward-thinking management approaches that keep our fisheries abundant, sustainable, and resilient for the future. 🌱🐟 #OceanWarming #SustainableOceans

The world's coral reefs, which are essential to marine life and shield our coastlines, are now in grave danger, with more than 90% affected by the growing impacts of climate change, pollution, and unsustainable fishing practices. These underwater ecosystems are not only beautiful but crucial to maintaining the balance of our oceans. At OYU Green, we are actively working to raise awareness and promote actions to restore and protect these delicate ecosystems. It's time to take a stand for our reefs and safeguard the future of our oceans. Together, with you, we can make lasting change! 🌊🐠 #OYUGreen #CoralReefConservation #ProtectOurOceans #ReefRestoration #ActForThePlanet #TogetherForNature #SaveTheCoral #OceanAwareness #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendly #ClimateAction #MarineBiodiversity #NatureConservation #HealthyOceans

The Importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) 🐟 MPAs are regions of the ocean where human activities are more strictly regulated than the surrounding waters, creating safe havens for marine life to thrive. Why do we need MPAs? 🌱 Protect Biodiversity: MPAs help preserve diverse marine species, including sea turtles, coral reefs, and fish populations. Support Fisheries: Healthy marine ecosystems ensure sustainable fish stocks, benefiting local communities and economies. Mitigate Climate Change: Healthy oceans absorb more CO2 and help combat climate change effects. 🌡️

🌊 On this World Seagrass Day, let's give a round of applause to our underwater hero, the one and only seagrass! 🌱 Seagrass is basically the superhero of the ocean, providing food and shelter for countless marine species as well as preventing erosion and protecting our coastlines by stabilizing the ocean floor. Seagrass also helps to combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it in the ocean floor. So not only is seagrass a vital part of our marine ecosystems, but it's also fighting the good fight against climate change. 🌍Unfortunately, seagrass meadows are threatened by human activities such as coastal development, pollution, and climate change. We have lost around 29% of seagrass meadows globally since the late 19th century. But it's not all doom and gloom! Here are some tips for us to play a part in preserving these important ecosystems: · Reduce our carbon footprint · Use sustainable fishing practices · Support marine conservation efforts Reporter: yihang HE Source: UN Environment Programme #GAUC #WorldSeagrassDay #ClimateChange #SaveOurSeagrass

WE’RE SENDING OUT an #SOSforBiodiversity, to Save Ocean Species this #UNWorldOceansDay. Along with hundreds of other #RelaisChateaux properties across 65 countries, and in partnership with @ethic_ocean, we’ve decided to stop serving eel. The species faces many threats–including habitat loss, water pollution, overfishing, illegal fishing, and global warming. Multiple species are listed as endangered on the @iucn_congress Red List, which lists the European eel as critically endangered. Sadly, it’s still possible to order eel throughout the world. For us, that stops now. And as the world’s largest network of chefs, we can collectively #AwakenNewDepths and make a difference by cutting global demand. You can join the #RelaisChateaux x #EthicOcean movement too. Send your own #SOSbiodiversité: simply say #EelNoThankYou whenever you are offered eel or unagi. At Akelarre, we are committed to celebrating World Oceans Day by not only removing eel from our menu but also by actively promoting sustainable seafood choices and educating our guests on the importance of ocean conservation.
