Permanent Residency on Arrival Caregivers will now receive permanent resident status upon arrival in Canada. This groundbreaking change removes uncertainty, allowing workers to focus on their roles while integrating more easily into Canadian society. 2. Broader Employment Opportunities The new programs will enable caregivers to work in diverse settings, including temporary or part-time care for individuals recovering from illness or injury or those requiring semi-independent living assistance. This flexibility addresses a wider range of care needs while enhancing job opportunities. Eligibility Requirements Prospective applicants must meet specific criteria to qualify for these new programs: • Language Proficiency: Achieving a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 in English or French. • Educational Credentials: Holding at least a Canadian high school diploma or its equivalent. • Relevant Experience: Demonstrating recent caregiving experience. • Job Offer: Securing a full-time employment offer in-home care. These straightforward requirements aim to streamline the application process and attract skilled, dedicated caregivers to Canada.

Preparing for Unprecedented Demand in Healthcare As 76.4 million baby boomers enter their elderly years, our healthcare system is bracing for a surge in demand like never before. This sector is expected to add jobs faster than any other part of our economy, yet we’re already facing a critical challenge: there aren’t enough healthcare workers to fill the growing number of vacancies. This issue is even more pressing in rural areas, where shortages are hitting hard. One key solution? Immigrants have proven to be essential in addressing some of our most glaring healthcare needs. According to recent data: 38.1% of Home Health Aides are foreign-born 28.7% of Physicians are foreign-born 25.5% of Personal Care Aides are foreign-born 22.1% of Nursing Assistants are foreign-born 19.2% of Clinical Laboratory Technologists and Technicians are foreign-born Overall, 16.5% of all healthcare workers in the U.S. are foreign-born. Immigrants are not only twice as likely to fill these critical roles but also more willing to relocate to underserved areas, including rural communities, where their skills are urgently needed. BEFORE: The caregiver pilot programs accepted 5,500 applications annually under the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker programs. The cap for Home Child Care Provider was reached but applications are still being accepted for the Home Support Worker Pilot until the cap is reached or the program expires on June 17, 2024. Under this program, caregivers had to accumulate 12 months work experience (on a work permit) in Canada before applying for PR. UPCOMING: Enhanced caregiver pilot programs will be launched on expiration of the current programs whereby caregivers will be granted PR status upon arrival in Canada.‼‼ This program will also expand the employment opportunities available to caregivers by allowing organizations to hire them.
