For the sake of our future living standards we need to address Australia’s woeful productivity performance. There is a clear link between regulatory settings and productivity and we have a shining example to rely on that delivered impressive productivity improvements. The Hawke/Keating reforms were based on compelling analysis from the business community and delivered with bipartisan support. This experience needs to be repeated. The obvious solution should not be a pipe dream.

Securing productivity gains is a key focus of companies and public sector organisations, both in major staffing decisions and particularly in enterprise bargaining in Australia.
