Scotland’s two new green freeports, Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport (ICFGF) and the newly launched Forth Green Freeport (FGF), are making waves globally as they focus on the energy transition and decarbonisation agenda 🌍
“The level of interest at this time is unprecedented,” said Calum MacPherson, CEO of ICFGF. “The breadth of it is interesting as it’s not just big multinationals involved in offshore wind from Europe, Asia, and North America. We also have a lot of interest from the supply chain – everything from chains to boats to training to IT systems, environmental consultants to recruitment companies. It’s a broad range of businesses looking to come here.”
The country's freeports offer significant advantages for wind energy, with deep-water ports situated near key offshore wind development areas in the North Sea. Additionally, the tax incentives available at its green freeports help mitigate risks for investors, encouraging new developments and innovations.
With FGF's ambitious plans to establish Scotland's largest platform for offshore renewables, and significant progress already being made on a 175-acre manufacturing hub and purpose-built deep-water facility for floating wind turbine integration, marshalling and commissioning, investment opportunities continue to rapidly unfold 👏
