Why do EMTs need their instructors to be vetted, trained, monitored and certified while Paramedics…who for all intents and purposes are ‘mobile extensions of a physician’ don’t require any vetting, training, monitoring or certification? You just have to be one to teach one? This doesn’t seem right here… I am starting a campaign to bring universal standards of vetting, training, monitoring and certification to paramedic instruction. Our students deserve to learn from the best, let’s make sure we’re the best by standardizing the education they receive with a proper program to ensure they are taught the right things by the right people. This isn’t about taking jobs away from instructors, this is about bringing a new set of professional standards to this critical profession. I hear constantly about how paramedics are not given credit for the knowledge they have and what they can do, they’re just ‘ambulance drivers’. If we want to be professional let’s break the mold of ‘that’s how we’ve always done it’ and push for a new, higher standard not just for ourselves but for pre-hospital providers everywhere. #certifyparamedicinstructors
