Last week, the Steam Next Fest took place, showcasing indie game releases for the coming months. I've uncovered for you the most underrated games that are going to be hits upon release ⬇️ Feed the Deep, created and published by the highly talented Luke Muscat, will delight deep-sea explorers. Procedurally generated underwater caves, resources to collect from their depths, which can be exchanged for upgrades and items to explore even deeper. All this in a heavy atmosphere enhanced by the original soundtrack from maestro Cedar Jones. The second gem is Waltz and Jam, a little bundle of cuteness in which you play as a ghost and an adorable little dog. A delightful blend of old Zelda and Little Big Planet, by the South Korean studio Flyway Games , where creative use of equipment is at the heart of the gameplay. The new game from unexpected games Artisan TD, is a tower defense game in which you must build "tower mazes to deliver the souls of magical warriors corrupted by the TITANS." The quality of the animations, the design of the characters and towers, and the universe have everything to please tower defense fans. In addition to its undeniable qualities, the game benefits from the visibility of Adrien Nougaret alias ZeratoR, a french content creator who owns Unexpected. ❓ I often find myself lost in 5 big indie game definitions such as roguelike, soulslike etc. Therefore I decided to make a short guide, and worry not, I still am not sure what is what, so good luck understanding it. As indie games shining brighter and brighter every year, I thought it is a good time to explain most common ones. I also realized there could NOT be an Ultimate guide, Because these definitions are, lets say, COMPLICATED. Here are 4 main problems with that: 1. No everyone agrees on these definitions. 2. Each game store has its own classifications. 3. Each game fits more than one definition at the same time 4. They keep coming up with new terms adding ‘’lite’’. So there it is, I hope it helps. Do you struggle to understand as well? Cheers. PS:If you could write about these definitions, it could be longer than Harry Potter series. Say Games' Tower Destiny Survive is a brilliant mix of recent successful genres. I absolutely fell in love with the minds behind it. So many design decisions that make it unique, like a moving tower instead of a static one. I am also a bit surprised to see a twerk-themed game moving up to #1. Some would have said that this has been done a long time ago and that one would only waste valuable resources on a game that is destined to fail, but it turns out that this isn't the case. Game Arcades can be a good source for inspiration, as the recent Carrom game has shown. Spiked up very quick to #1 (before it disappeared as quick as it came). Who would have thought that this can happen? Sorting games also seem to keep their pace, and we now see a hybrid of color sorting and the nuts and bolts theme in Nuts&Bolts: Color Sort. Many people would have thought it's not a very creative idea and would have rejected it, but the creativity here is exactly to find a theme for the popular color sorting mechanic that is not from the real world (like doughnuts, cloth, coffee etc), but from the world of current popular games.
