The Dutch BearingPoint CSR-team had the incredible opportunity to visit BlueCity (010), a former swimming pool called 'Tropicana' in Rotterdam that has been transformed into a hub where innovative sustainable start-ups come together and focus on the latest developments in circular solutions, among other initiatives. It is inspiring to see forward-thinking entrepreneurs committed to sustainable solutions. The CSR-team was impressed by the possibilities, motivating us to explore how we can integrate these practices into our daily activities, reduce our carbon footprint, promote green initiatives within our organization, and provide sustainable solutions to our customers. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 - 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬: At BlueCity, we observed how mangoes, shoes, beer, and packaging can be part of the same value chain. Entrepreneurs leverage their synergies by ingeniously connecting their waste streams. What is discarded as waste by one can be transformed into valuable input resources for another, epitomizing the circular economy. - 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: Despite the promise of their innovative ideas, circular start-ups often face financial challenges because their return on investment (ROI) can take longer compared to non-circular alternatives. To remain competitive, they need to achieve scalable production. BlueCity plays a crucial role in this process by addressing scalability and feasibility early on, thereby supporting these start-ups through critical stages of their development. - 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲'𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: BlueCity isn't just a physical space; it's a catalyst for change, acting as a facilitator, connector, and guide for business actions. One of the benefits of managing these hubs under one domain is that the shared experiences lead to a better understanding of how to assist small-scale initiatives along the stages of product development and the business lifecycle.
