Who's that young buck, i hear you ask? 🤔
I know, I’ve hardly changed—except for the hairline, a few greys, and moving up a couple of fighting weights. Regular Conor McGregor vibes here! 🥊😂
Some of my favourite, most fun, and hardest-working times were spent behind the bar. Believe it or not, those days laid some serious foundations for skills I still use today. People wouldn’t guess it, but bar work teaches you real-world leadership in ways you'd never expect. 💼🍻
Reflective Listening 🎧
(Customer shouting) “3 pints of Guinness, mucker!” 🍺🍺🍺
(Me) “There ye go, 3 scoops, mucks.”
Time Management ⏳
(Me ringing the bell) “Right folks, time to drink up there!” ⏰🥂
Conflict Management ⚔️
(Me jumping over the bar to split up two guys fighting over a lady) “Lads, neither of you has a chance. Sit down or you're out!” 🤷♂️
Financial Management & Negotiation 💸
(Me) “That’ll be £2, mucker.”
(Customer) “I’ve only got £1.50, will that do?”
(Me) “Sure, no bother, so I drank a quarter of his pint.” 🤣
Risk Management ⚠️
Mopping up the toilets to avoid slips, trips, and falls—mainly to avoid a claim! 🚽🧽
The bar was all about fun, people, and engagement—and let’s not forget the craic! 😄 Plus, a cheeky pint or two on my break, though I should mention that’s not something I practice nowadays! 😉🍻
Bar work might seem like just pouring drinks and having a laugh, but those skills? They transfer to the business world in big ways. Time management, conflict resolution, negotiation—it’s all there, just with more Guinness involved! 🍺🔥
Here’s me in action back in the day, showing off the perfect pour of Guinness.
PS - Why don't you share with me your roles of the past that help you in your today's role?
